Adapt it and test it for which you like better. The damage is already done, so make the best of it. You can astound the grandchildren with tall tales of the boke of the loser in years to come.
Well, I haven't done any damage yet, the FD is untouched. But, I suppose I should test it out, or I'll always wonder. But, I really like the lens in general, and judging from Cogitech's samples, I like the Rokinon bokeh more, and infinity is not so bad either (But, I could always get infinity in LV).
As much as it pleases me that my test is useful to you, I recommend to do the conversion and try it. You owe it to yourself to play with both. After all, the one I had was the SSC Aspherical. According to a bunch of old tests by Dim.Ka, there were differences (if only slight) between the SSC Asph and the FD L. He generally liked the SSC Asph better, as I remember it... So did I.
I would not hesitate to use either one for all my 85mm needs, to be honest. For me, the Rokinon won due to price and the slight edge in bokeh. If I hadn't needed the money, I'd probably still own the FD. f1.2 is cool, after all
At least the Rokinon isn't one of those Korean sweat-shop Sam Yangs we've all heard about!
cogitech, between yours and carstenw's advice, it feels like it makes sense for me to convert. I'll give it a go, and see which I like better. From your tests, it looked like there really wasn't much difference between the SSC @f1.2 and the Rokinon @f1.4.
Fun fact: Mine is in fact not a Rokinon or Samyang. In order to get it before release in the US, I bought it directly off a popular S. Korean website. The brand that they were selling was "Polar."
Not sure how fun that was...
