Hey, guys, any experience about the two lens (nikon 24 3.5 pc-e lens and nikon 45 2.8 pc-e lens)?
I am trying to buy one which will be employed to do some landscape and architecture shootings.
Currently I prefer to 24, but 45 is also attractive for some city architecture shootings.
Any tips to use 24 or 45 from your experience? Can I hand-hold to do the shooting?
Thank you all~!
Yes, 24mm on the D800 works just fine. The only issues are that the clearance is tight. But the lens functions just fine!
I only have the 24mm ... and I use it for landscape. I have the axis rotated so that both tilt and shift are aligned with each other. I love this lens!
I am waiting for my 24 pc-e now, and I am doing some homework.
Questions:
1. How to rotate the axis? What's the pro and con?
2. Will a 17 TC or 20 TC fit it?
Thanks and solicit your thoughts.
This exact question was asked a few months ago here. A search may give you additional information.
The standard disclaimer regarding the 24mm pc-e is because the potential is there to hit the mirror box, but in reality it will not happen if you are a thinking person.
You may want to do some research on rotating the axis. There used to be specific instructions on the internet somewhere, but I think they have been removed. In reality, it is a simple matter of removing the four tiny screws and turning the body 90 degrees. Make sure you turn it the right way so as not to bind the electronic cable inside. You also immediately void your warranty doing that yourself. So if you do it, be invisible, leave no trace (like hiking) such as scratching screws, etc...
I'm not sure why the 24mm pc-e is even sold the way it is initially. I'd guess most people who use the lens prefer tilt and shift on the same axis...

I don't understand why you would want to use a TC on this lens, as that was one of your questions. I wouldn't think it will work.
If they did, it would be an easy, compact way to have 24mm, 34mm and 48mm PC-Es, as long as you were ok with IQ degrading a bit. It would be nice to have as the TS-Es do.
If you perform the same mod on the TCs to allow it to mount non-AF-S lenses (i.e. file/dremel off the tab), it works
I remember it from the thread you started back in 2011, lxdesign! tdong was the poster, iirc

I've never gotten around to modding my TC14eII nor the axis for my 45mm though
