What did you try? Because, it's not that much to do. Did you update to 4.2? Did you delete the preference file? Those two things should make a world of difference, and only take a few minutes.

I downloaded the latest version of LR 4. I looked for the preference files but could not locate them. Well not quite true....I did find the preference folder but did not see a LR 4 file. All I found was this:

com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist. It showed it as a document.

I was halfway thru the edit anyway and I did not want to risk screwing up what I had already done so I did not bother to delete it.

man...every time I think I am ready to open the box on my LR4 upgrade I read another thread like this.

Come on Adobe...get it together!

Bit slow sometimes, but nothing hair pulling (and that's a good thing since I don't have much left!)

It must be a Mac or 5DIII thing.

Jim, also be sure to purge everything.

Yep. That's the file. Rename it by putting the word " old" at the front of it and then reboot LR4.

I'm getting pissed at v. 4. When I use the brush tool to increase exposure on a part of the photo, I'm getting speckled spots. I can't wait to finish this edit and go back to my trusty v. 3.

Uncheck "Auto Mask" for the brush options, just under the brush size/feather/flow sliders if its checked.

Thanks guys. Once I finish exporting the pics, I will give these fixes a try.

That might actually be what slows mine down. I use that a lot. However, this morning, I was doing some touch-ups where I really didn't need the auto-mask, and it was working much faster. (just where these brushes are concerned) Using the brushes is the only thing that slows my LR down. I save all that part for the last pass anyway.

^not just a Mac thing but mine is worse with the 5DIII. Not tried the Automask thing yet. Brush speckling during brightness happens when you try to push a file past its limits, it just alters and ramps up the noise more - dont forget what the 5D3 is like in shadows. 3.6 did this too in the right conditions.

I like how the first comment sends them here.

I have all but four modules turned off in LR. I tried the method in the first link a while back and there was no difference from just turning them off with the right-click. I copied them back and just left well enough alone.

I can attest that all the pointers in the second link do work. I've done those for a couple of versions now.

I renamed the preference file and that did the trick. LR v. 4 is now just as fast as v. 3. However all my previous edits are now gone. It's a good thing I finished this edit first.

When I did it, I didn't lose my work. It simply asked to upgrade the catalog again. (Or, I remember it notifying me something like that it was doing automatically)

Jim, you seem to have the worst luck. lol

Yeah, It also had me upgrade the catalog too. When I went back to the job I had just finished, all my selects that I had put in another folder inside the same job were missing along with my edits.

Oh well, I suppose I'll purchase it now that it seems to be running quicker.
