p.1 #1 · Whats the point of the 1DIV now the 1Dx has F8 focusing
I would like to here the reasons to go with the Mark IV over the 1Dx seeing it has focusing at F8 now. I personaaly have not used the Mark IV since the 1Dx, I just like it better. With that said the Mark IV is a great back up body.

I think the 1DIV is a good "companion" for the 1DX. I often shoot a 1DX and 1DIV together, one is backup for the other. For field sports in the past, I've used the 1DIV on 70-200/2.8L IS II, plus 1DX (prev. 1DsIII) on 500/4L IS. Now I'm experimenting with 1DX on 70-200/2.8L IS II, plus 1DIV on EX 120-300/2.8 OS.
Also, the 1DIV has a higher pixel density, at 175 ppmm, compared with 144 ppmm for the 1DX. This is not always a good thing, but in this case, it works.

1.3 crop and plenty fast... only reason to upgrade would be better low iso with 1DX, which is the main reason I switched.
How much better is the low ISO with the 1Dx, and in what ways? This is very important to me since I prefer to shoot with as low of an ISO as possible. Thanks in advance.

Some of us might ask the question "as long as there is a 1D Mark IV, what is the point of the 1DX?" While I have no question that the 1DX is an outstanding camera and that it has some capabilities that exceed those of the 1D Mark IV, with a pixel density that is only approximately that of a 1D Mark III, the 1DX, regardless of whether it can focus at f8, comes with limitations that are important for some of us who often shoot in focal length-limited situations and who, even putting money aside, have little interest in using larger and heavier lenses.
When Canon announces a 1DX Mark III in 5 years and when that camera has enough pixels to exceed the pixel density of the 1D Mark IV I will have considerable enthusiasm for the camera. Until then, I can't get excited about a camera that is going to require me to use lenses that weigh considerably more than the ones that I can use with the 1D Mark IV and/or lenses that might well be a stop slower than the lenses that I can use with a 1D Mark IV. For me, the mobility advantages that come with being able to use shorter lenses outweigh whatever other advantages that the 1DX may have.

Hi Les,
I agree with your thinking to a point. I am of an age and physical ability that size and weight does not matter much to me at this point. "some of us who often shoot in focal length-limited situations" that would be me most of the time thus the reason I use and own the 800mm. That is why F8 is important to me. I think Canon has done some good things with the 1dx but that does not mean I am selling my Mark IV

I haven't shot with a full-frame 35mm-sized body since I went to all digital in 1999 with a DCS2000. And since I've shot with a crop body (either 1.3x or 1.6x) since then, there are things that one gets used to... and frankly appreciates. If money were no object, or I made my living as a full-time professional photographer, I'd probably get a 1D-X just because... since neither is the case, and since I really, really like the 1DIV, there's just no compelling reason to add one.

How much is "much"?
I don't shoot over 800 and very seldom over 400 ISO.
My 1DIV couldn't do this. EF 85/1.2L II on 1DX, handheld, f/2, 1/60 sec, ISO 12800. It was realy, really dark. The light bulb in the distant background was probably 200W.
P.S. I have tons more, but I don't like to post people shots...

Yeah and the 1D IV IQ sucks of course.
It's a matter of degree. 1D X is no doubt better, but the 1D IV is still excellent at least to ISO 6400 and for wildlife that's plenty. Combine that with 26% more reach when FL limited and ~ 50% lower price currently and it's hard to ignore.

I already said that. In many recent threads.
When I say, "The 1DX also has much better high ISO than the 1DIV", it's with full appreciation of what the 1DIV can do. That's why I currently shoot both a 1DX and a 1DIV. Each has its own 'best'.
