For the web stuff, I agree the sharpness is in the processing; but I've used high end glass on high end cameras from both Canon and Nikon, and I assure you there was a difference to me. Canon glass was more clear, realistic, vibrant and crisp when comparing the exact same shot from both. Of course, this test of mine was 5 years ago. So, that may have changed in the past few years. They may be neck and neck today, but I was serious as to why I chose Canon. I don't know if you realize this but I switched from canon to Nikon two years ago. I had all L glass, lots of primes. I now have the high end Nikon primes.
