For the web stuff, I agree the sharpness is in the processing; but I've used high end glass on high end cameras from both Canon and Nikon, and I assure you there was a difference to me. Canon glass was more clear, realistic, vibrant and crisp when comparing the exact same shot from both. Of course, this test of mine was 5 years ago. So, that may have changed in the past few years. They may be neck and neck today, but I was serious as to why I chose Canon. The only thing that attempts me to swap from

I don't know if you realize this but I switched from canon to Nikon two years ago. I had all L glass, lots of primes. I now have the high end Nikon primes.

we canon shooters just assume our stuff is out of focus, so we go nuts on sharpening. its science.

Just trying to get a better workflow for sharpening. What I am doing is definitely not as good.

Why don't you post your current sharpening strategy -- along with some sample images -- so we can evaluate it and give you suggestions? I suggest, however, that you do that in a new thread over on the Post-Processing forum, because -- as you can see -- this thread has already degenerated into the typtical fm.com silliness.

I did notice that, and that's a long time ago. I was with Canon using 1Ds III, 5D II, 5D.

You were using the 5DII five years ago?

Looking that up actually made me realize my testing was closer to seven or eight years ago. The 5D was just coming out.

I said two years ago dude. YOU were the one that switched five years ago. What are you, senile? lol.

Maybe you just need new reading glasses, bro. That's the lack of sharpness you're seeing.

lol I just wanted to call you senile and say you need reading glasses.

So when did you leave Canon, after the 20D / 1D Mark II?

I just wanted to phuck with you.

No, I was deciding Nikon/Canon at the time for my first dSLR. I went with the 30D first. (for a few months) Then, I got two 40D's and started weddings in 2008. I waited to go full frame at the 5DII.

Both Canon and Nikon produces sharp photos. Nikon's wide angle lens win and Canon's telephoto lens win typically.

But I only use RAW. Can't say much about JPGs.

Is it just me noticing this, but are the ones who say "sharpness is overrated" Canon shooters?

Maybe on a 5d3...but on my 5d2s it is super unreliable. The last shoot I used it for, I would say I got 30%+ OOF images...most of the OOF images were at subjects around 6-10 feet away, but some were much closer (backlit). I was having bad luck with focus that day in general, but 50 was doing much worse...
