p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Question on 5D Mark III auto focus

With the camera, canon 5D mark III, set on 61 point automatic selection AF in AI servo in the horizontal position the camera behaves as I expect once it has a focused on an object and the camera is moved ( to simulate the object moving) the active focus point moves to stay on the selected object and keep focus.
When the camera is rotated to the vertical position it seems to behave differently and once an object has been focused on if the camera is moved ( to simulate the object moving) it does not try to keep focus on that object but changes focus to where the one focus point in the camera is looking.
My question is twofold. Is this behavior, explanation correct and does the 1DX behave the same way.
Thanks

Did you move the camera vertically or horizontally when in portrait orientation?

Craig, check in your menu under AF4-'Orientation linked AF point' and check to see what you have that set to. If you have it set for 'Select separate AF points', that could explain the different behavior when switch from horizontal to vertical shooting.

When set to 'Select separate AF points', the AF area select mode changes to your last chosen mode that you set when you last used that orientation. Try changing that to 'Same for both vert/horiz' and see if the camera behaves the same.

Thanks gvg45 and Pixel Perfect
I had AF4 orientation set to separate AF points, when changed to same for both vert / horiz the auto focus behaves the same in both vertical and horizontal.
For Pixel Perfect both vertically and horizontally when in portrait orientation
