p.1 #1 · Olympus Zuiko OM 35mm F2.0 falling apart?

Hi folks, just had a question for all you alt glass users. I've had a Zuiko 35mm F2.0 OM mount lens for a few years I bought from KEH. the Aperture ring on it is loose and sloppy and makes a lot of noise when rotated... it works fine but its driving me nuts! This lens is super sharp and I love it on my 5D MKII, but the loose aperture ring makes the quality feel like garbage.

does anyone else have this problem? Any idea what screw I need to tighten to fix it? I've removed the OM mounting plate and tightened a few screws with no avail... im geussing some kind of washer or spacer has worn out over the years.

Any advice is appreicated!

Lens in question!

Not got an answer for you but would love to see some sample shots if you have any. My copy of this lens is blurry and glowy wide open, and CAs like crazy...wonder if there's anything wrong with mine!

Mines a bit soft wide open with some CA. I chalk it up to "character" and still use it for a vintage look. Wide open it also gets a little foggy and halos on bright objects.. oddly I still prefer it to the Canon 35mm F2. stopped down a bit after F2.8 it gets pretty sharp, and at 5.6 its REAL sharp.

As for samples, here's a few... these where taken from a 20D so its more of a 50mm equiv. I've been shooting it on a 5D MKII and its MUCH different.

Great shots there.

To answer your question, my aperture ring is fine, no slack in it. Clicks into place normally per aperture position - so yours does sound like it needs some repair.

if you need to deal with the aperture ring, it will be reached from the front of the lens, not the back. likely need spanner wrench and a set of rubber stoppers. usually there is a circlip or something similar that keeps the aperture ring in place. and a ball bearing for the click-stops.

Probably not falling apart, sounds minor. On some OM lenses, the front ring where the serial number is actually controls how much slop there is in the front. If you dont have one of these: http://www.micro-tools.com/store/P-LRSET/Lens-Ring-Tool-Set.aspx to tighten it, try with your hands or improvise some kind of tool. With the lens facing up, try putting one thumb on the word Zuiko and the other thumb on the serial number and rotate the ring clockwise if possible. Be careful of the glass.
