Just for conversations sake... what's the general thought on what will happen after October 27th when the instant rebates end on the Canon 5D Mark II?

Will it jump back to the $2100 mark and stay there for long? Or will we see the $1800 price become permanent?

I think Canon will just extend the rebate until it's out of stock.

I agree with Wahoowa. Canon wants to sell all their stock of 5DII's since the 6D is most likely going to replace it on the product line.

Prices are dropping, and cameras are blowing out of stock. They did this with the 5D Classic, and then those dealers with bodies left bumped their prices to very high levels because people who wanted just that model would pay. I recall that they went out for about $1699 and then went up to over 2k when the big houses ran out.

Agree. $1699 looks like the 'everything must go' price for the 5DII.
Presumably to clear 5DII stock before the arrival of the 6D.

And it is not just 5D II. These rebates started last year on mostly everything and have been extended right after they expired.

Usually they create fantasy prices and then create a "rebate".
I guess it will go even further down till 5D II runs out. Times have changed.
When 5D ran out there where only 5D II and D700 to chose at much higher prices (and of course 1Ds III and D3x at exorbitant offers).
I guess this will not happen again with 5D II. 6D, D600, D700, 5D III, D800(e) are available now to name the "affordable" bodies.
