p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · source for SD cards in bulk?

I got married recently. Two friends of mine, a semi-professional wedding photographer and a professional editorial photographer, did the photography. They've relinquished all rights and are happy to have me deal with getting prints made and all the rest of the assorted post-ceremony headaches.

As part of our thank-you cards to our guests, I'd like to send out SD cards with 1920x1080 resolution jpgs. That means that I need 85 of the SD cards. Does anyone know a source of SD cards to buy in bulk? They don't need to be large -- 1gb would be plenty. 512mb would probably be enough. (Anyone know of any super-closeouts on old small-capacity cards?)

Thanks.

I don't know about bulk sales. But at Amazon a small card cost about one or two US dollar

Your best bet would be to look for "a lot" of SD cards on eBay.

Lars,

If I could find that, I'd go for it. But the lowest price I can find on amazon is about $4, for a 4gig card. Smaller capacities than that actually seem to go *up* in price, oddly...

The "lot" prices on eBay seem to be a similar level.

If I can't find anything I'll do a short-term pro subscription to flickr or smugmug and let people donwload the images from there.

I would like to give you a different approach as I find that giving most people SD cards would be a waste as they would not know what to do with them.

Instead have you considered posting your pictures online to a site that gives people access to view and download the pictures. Both Zenfolio (my preference) and Smugmug are great for this, and it would be a lot easier to upload the pictures here once than it would be to copy the photos to 85 SD cards, and then deal with your relatives teaching them what to do with the cards. If you upload them to a site, you can even setup a custom URL (e.g., www.zenfolio.com/TheJohnsonsWedding) and can include this in the thank cards.

You also don't need to deal with file sizes, card sizes, bad cards, or printing as people can order prints directly from the sites.

I do a lot of local events for the school and sports teams and this is how I distribute the photos. PM me if you want a link to my Zenfolio site to see an example.

Another option that makes it very easy for people to share is to setup a Facebook group page. This is free and you can upload the photos there. Facebook makes it very easy people to share the photos and you can tag them with all of the participants, which people generally love.

Just a thought.

I would put them online too, with a password if you are concerned about that.
