Having a pretty good day, my son turned 18 months on Thursday, and I had been waiting to buy him some of the 18 mos legos.
We have a lamp in the room that is in the corner. I thought, "you know, a flash in there would be a nice light in the room bounced between the walls and ceiling." "this would make a nice light to photograph my son playing with his new legos."
Then turn light on, and forget there's a 580EXII in there...

Robert I was half expecting a 1-Series body or a L lens being destroyed. Does the flash still function with a deformed case?
Though this doesn't quite compare to when I lost a 1DIII at sea...this is still pretty dumb.
I changed the power output manually and it "seems" to work.
If I wasn't so angry at myself for being stupid, I would try it on a camera.
Thanks. Being a father is the best thing I could've ever done. I can only hope that I am 1/2 of the father to my son, that my wife is a mother to him. Don't tell her, but she is a million times the parent that I am.

I hope that I will have a chance to tell her that, some day. She'll like it. Have you told her that?
ouch! something similar happened to me a few years ago. Just purchased a brand new 40D and 70-200 IS. My girlfriend and I decide to take her niece and nephew to the park. I get so concerned with putting them in the child seat and strapping them down, I forgot I rested the camera on top of the car. We drive off. I hear a sound of metal and plastic tumbling in the street....

good reason to upgrade to the 600EX's
Soon, maybe in 2013. I've bled too much money this year. I do like the idea of having them though. a few less things to carry/need for OCF. jcolwell wrote:

I'm saving that for a day that I'm in real trouble :P

Just cover that "dimple" up with black gaffers tape, no one will be the wiser.
You're going to laugh...I don't even own gaffers tape lol.

Did you throw up when that happened?
pretty much wanted to, lol. Surprisingly enough, after it got back from Canon, the lens just needed calibration and the metal filter ring replaced. The camera just had a few scratches on it but checked out fine. If I recall correctly it was about $400 for repairs.
Robert, you missed your chance to start a complaint thread, like "Canon plastic casings are defective" or something. You know, post the picture with no explanation, and wait for people to say "if you'd read the manual before you used a blowtorch to trigger your strobe..."..."another way that Nikon's flash system is better..."..."are you sure that's not a Chinese knockoff?"
That's not stupidity, that's parenthood! My wife and I were fairly accomplished until we started our family, now the little blighters seems to have rendered us dopes. Think of the flash as a milestone; the lego and the memory will last forever!
Bummer on your flash. Lucky it still works. It sounds just like something I would do.
Years ago I dropped my 420 EX and it still works, just broke the door hinge. I keep it when I need extras but just can't sell it like that.
Congrats on the sons Birthday. The only thing I've found to compare to how great my kids were are my grandkids.
