OK, here is the scenario. I have 2 600ex-rt flash units. I place one in master mode and attach it to my 5dII, I press the mode button until Gr shows at the top. This allows for individual control of up to 5 groups. My second flash is remote in slave mode running on the same channel, etc, etc.
When I press the test button on the master unit, the slave fires as it should and the flash on the camera does not change mode BUT if I take a picture in the group mode, the flash reverts back to ETTL. I really want the flash to stay in the Gr mode..
Yeah but it works the first time then switches to ETTL. The 2012 version should allow you to make the same changes in the camera as you do in the flash. There is no mention in the manual about the system reverting back to ETTL so methinks that's not it..
Also, will the same thing happen if you have the ST-E3??
It's not "a suggestion". Page 51 of the 600EX-RT manual explains that on bodies released prior to 2012, "Group flash is not possible", as well as some other limitations.
