Ya, I thought I could sell it, I was wrong. It is awesome and I couldn't have shot tonight's rock show without it. Not enough light to even use my 24-70 II luckily my tax return was much better than expected.
I had no problem selling mine. Bought at B+H, sold it on Toronto Craig's List for $50 less then I paid for it 12 months later. A saving of $400 on the best Canadian retail price at the time and it went quickly. You have to be realistic on pricing. Retro is right, 20% off retail should see it sold.

Yea, the 24L II whips the 24-70L II silly in the f1.4~f2 range.
But not at f/2.8?
I want to like this lens very much, but so far my experience with it as a CPS loaner was inconclusive. In wedding test shots, I tried shooting wide open, and wasn't too happy about daytime subdued light shots -- too much falloff/vignetting. Didn't feel I was getting an actual f/1.4, slightly closer to f/2. That was the weekend I fell in love with the 50/1.2L wide open, so perhaps that was not a good pairing to try out for best reaction. I'll give it another try.
the 24LmkII is an amazing lens.. def a ton of vignetting wide open, and if i remember my colleague's observations correctly, the lens' is closer to ~t1.6 as well.. but, it never stopped me from shooting it wide open at f/1.4 & the 24mkII almost never disappointed me on any paid outing. (only disappointment came from me picking up a Zeiss 21mm & seeing true f/8 sharpness for landscape applications, but that's apples & oranges)
still prefer my new 24-70mkII for the flexibility it offers for my style of shooting, but the 24LmkII is an amazing piece of glass - def not a mistake to hold onto it if you need it =) imo it's even better than the classic/revered 35L
