4K is only at 12-13 FPS but still very impressive for $400. You get 2.7k video at 30 FPS though. I am considering getting one around thanksgiving.

I'm not sure what-- at all-- 4K video at anything less than 24 fps is worth. I literally don't know.

Far more interesting are:

1. 60 FPS @ 1080p/120 FPS @ 720p. Hi-Res slow-mo, or super slow-mo.
2. Better low-light.
3. Flat Lens/Case for underwater.
4. Size.

Great improvements on every generation.

The only problem I have with Gopro is that their official videos make me feel like I'm living the life of a complete loser

I'd say it differently. It makes me think that some foolish people will take more risks for vidoes, resulting in more injuries.

Wouldn't that at best be equivalent to action shots taken with a shutter speed of 1/30"?

Not necessarily. The fps determines the number of pictures in one second, and it does put an upper limit on the exposure time (1/30" would be the maximum for a 30fps video) but there is nothing stopping you from using a shorter exposure time.
