New Camera, old flash. Seems to be working OK. Should an original 580EX work 100% or is something not compatible?
thanks

It works 100%. all canon ex flashes do. Now there information that the new cameras can communicate with new flashes, such as focus distance, which obviously if the flash does not support, wont be relayed.

The ETTL is in the camera body, so an ETTL-2 camera will work fine with an older ETTL flash.

The 580EX is a E-TTL II type flash, designed specifically to work with E-TTL II cameras. IIRC it was the first of that type.

I just double checked and you are right! This is great news for me when I finally get around to picking up a newer camera body.
