I have one of these. They are better than the stock V750 holders, adjustable for height, and nicely finished. You can also lay a piece of ANR glass in there for better flatness.

Great, thanks for letting me know!

I have a 6008i myself, and while it is a very neat camera, with modern-ish operation and in-camera metering, great lenses, yadda yadda, I am not sure I would recommend it to an American (or a Canadian). They never were the big hit over there that they (sort of) were on the old side of the pond, and support could be an issue. Francke&Heidecke (the company which made these cameras) made a long series of mistakes in setting up dealer networks, and they never really managed to straighten things up properly.
In Germany, a camera like this would be worth the equivalent of roughly $500 with no lens or film back, or down from that in case the condition isn't great. I would recommend getting a fully working kit with the 120 back and 80/2.8 lens as a good starting point, and that might run more like $750 or so.
There are definitely cheaper ways to test out the waters for someone wanting to try medium format. The Rolleiflex would be more something to get into when you know exactly why you want it, when nothing else will do, and the reason isn't its cool bauhaus design. There are some valid reasons....Show more →
carstenw, I have jumped the gun, and bought the excellent Rolleiflex 6008i complete set! Oh boy!
What is that, an 80/2.8 Planar and 150/4 Sonnar? Very nice. Btw, Familie is feminine in German, and it should thus be glückliche Deutsche Familie Note the 'e's at the endings of the adjectives.

Yes, and the 80mm f/2.8 HFT Planar is the PQS model! Thanks for the correction, I used Google to make my statement of joy! I hope I could honor these fine pieces of Rollei! zäh by aRolleiGuy, on Flickr

Ah, PQS is useful, my 80 is also one. I don't know about honour, I think it would be enough if you had some fun and got a few nice shots
Yes so tru! In the meanwhile I need to save up to get a decent scanner next or else I couldn't display my attempt! Would you offer any advice on everything? Lol
So with the system I am getting what I think is cool! A Polaroid, 6x6 and the 4.5 x 6 back plus two lenses a hard case, battery, charger, handgrip and of course the 6008i! The zeiss made by Rollei is plenty already! I bought some fuji Polaroid and a few other excellent film already. Next up would-be the scanner, some filters and thats about all im allowed.
The Epson 4990 has a good reputation. The V700 is good.
But what I have repeatedly heard recently is that "scanning" by using a DSLR can yield superior results. Here is one quote from Ming Thein:
"The ‘scanning’ was accomplished with an interesting hack-rig: my product photography lightbox, lit by a speedlight within, film passed through a cardboard mask (to prevent scratches) and the camera resting above, spaced perfectly with the long hood from a Zeiss ZF.2 2/100 Makro-Planar but fitted to the 2/50 Makro-Planar which coincidentally has the same bayonet. Add a 20mm extension tube, and the spacing is not only perfect, but I now have a 4000+DPI scanner."
I bought a lightbox for examining negatives, and will use it as background light for making such shots. I don't yet know if the light will be even enough, but I guess that it will be fine.

it'll be far cheaper for me to buy the Epson or V700, since this is my only camera! well, i need rest, so off to bed i GO!
An old aluminum Gitzo would work. Mine does ok with 8x10 work and an 18lb camera. Great for 4x5. New Gitzos are a lot lighter but more expensive. Feisol is also supposed to be very good: http://reallybigcameras.com/Feisol/Tripods

thanks so much! im off to bed, its 4 am california time, im late!! also i bought a canner for 80$ but it has no film or neg holder, is there an alternative to these? it is the epson V500! Thank you!
You can try laying negatives flat on the scanner platen and using anti-newton ring glass on top of that or taping the negative to anti-newton ring glass and using pennies or something to lift it off the platen. The sharpest point for most of these Epson scanners is usually a millimeter or a few off the platen.
