p.1 #1 · Question on Crop Factor/Resolution Advantage for Tele

I shoot a pair of D7000s, and am strongly considering adding the v1 with FT-1 adapter for extending my long end reach for wildlife shooting (I know it is AF-S and single point but I can live with that). The 2.7 crop factor over the 1.5 is very appealing when lighting is good and ISOs can be kept low. But here is my question: with a higher end 24mp DX body coming at some point in the near future, does this negate a lot of the advantage of the 2.7x crop factor with the V1 10mp sensor? What I mean is that I will replace one of my D7000s with the D7100/D400/whatever they call it, and assume I will gain a good bit of ability to crop more with a 24mp DX sensor as opposed to the 16mp DX sensor I currently have in the D7000. Will cropping with a 24mp DX sensor get me to about the same reach I would get with the v1 and adapter, negating the big reach advantage there? Thanks for any clarification on this!! -L

Cropping a 24MP DX file to the size of V1 sensor will give you around 7.5MP vs the 10MP that you get out of V1. So V1 can give you slightly more pixels. Though unless you have a lens which has a high enough resolution to meet the demands of V1, you might not see much practical difference.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a D400....MAYBE a D7100, but most are beginning to think nikon is pushing FX to the enthusiast line, rather than staying with DX...

ok thanks for the replies. My feeling is there will be a new DX high end camera in early 2013, the price gap is there underneath the D600 and the demand is certainly there, but for now I am going to try the ft-1 adapter with a D7000. Cheers

the FT-1 is an adaper for the V1. It will not fit the D7000.
