I'm usually rolling with dual cameras and my Lowepro Flipside 300 backpack and in the perfect world would be able to wear the backpack and have both cameras unpacked at my disposal with quick ability to switch from camera to camera.
I've looked at the BlackRapid dual straps system, which is perfect if I wasn't wearing the backpack. Similarly, the cottoncarrier vest system seems like it would prevent me from wearing the backpack comfortably as well.
I haven't been able to find an optimal solution and was wondering if any of you have recommendations on the best way to accomplish this.
Cottoncarrier system won't interfere with your backpack. I hike with a backpack and a 100-400+body hooked into my cottoncarrier vest all the time without issue.
Thanks for the suggestions! I went to both my local stores and checked out different bags, the cotton carrier vest system, blackrapid dual straps, and the cotton carrier strapshot.
I love the locking/holster system of the cotton carrier series, but wasn't a fan of the vest at all (and that was without a backpack over it). The dual blackrapid straps was okay, but when i had the backpack on it wasn't the best of options. I tinkered around with the strapshot and actually hooked it up to my lowepro bag and ended up going that route and then buying a second handstrap/locking system for my 2nd body.
I found that with my 80/200 attached to the strapshot (my primary lens for when i'm using this gear setup), it made that side of my backpack strap sag down (just from the weight). However, since most of the time my second body and a smaller lens will be attached, there is pretty much no noticeable slippage to that side of my body.
It's not the perfect solution, but it ended up being the best solution to have both bodies out and the ability to switch from camera to camera fairly quickly, without worrying about something dangling at my hip or swinging when i'm hiking.
