I am sure this may have been discussed before but I coud find anything by searching. I mostly shoot my sons hockey with my 5d2 and can definetly notice the fps not being enough. I see all the praises for the 5d3 but am wondering would I be better off with that or say the 1dsiii or 1d4? I do shoot other things on occasion as well but not often. If it helps I own:
24-105; 70-200 IS II, 100-400, 17-40, 50-1.4; 100l 2.8 IS. Any advice would be helpful. I should also note I've had a 7d but was not impressed with the results of shooting at 4000-5000iso which is what most hockey is shot at.

Well the 1DsIII does not shoot at that many fps either, so that probably doesn't help much. The 1D4 would give you higher fps, but personally I would put my money into either a 200 f/1.8L or a 200 f/2L IS. Those lenses will get your ISO down a bit and/or let you increase your shutter speed. IMO, this will improve your shots more than extra fps, even though that can help too. How close can you get to the action? If you can get close enough a 1D4 with a 135L might be just the ticket to get both higher fps and a faster lens and keep the cost down. If you can afford it and need the reach, however, I think the 1D4 with one of the fast 200 Ls is the ultimate way to go for hockey.
well my thought was sell the 5d2 for $1400 or so buy the 5d3 for 2800 used. 200l lenses are 4k and only usefull to me for one purpose so its a bit steep..135 has been a lens ive been pondering, i mostly shoot from the players box...

sounds like a plan if you're shooting at higher ISO's and FPS rate
