That is really enough to pi$$ one off. What is is it, 5 months after introduction you have to take a hit for $550 or so? We all new it was coming, but damn that hurts when it's so soon and so big.

Me too, that's why it is so upsetting. Early adopters always take a hit, but, a $100 a month . We all tried to justify the new price, it was really based on Canon exploiting us. It will eventually be about $200 more than the 5D2. They may even throw a printer in.

what nice price not long ago i paid $3500 for body only,no regret though.
second this........me too......
I feel it was all realitive for me. I sold the 5DII for 1850.00. Not even looking at the price I would get it for now......?? Not 1850.00.
I have since used the 5DIII for special occasions that the 5DII would have given me fewer keepers....(needed low light focus ability, other than just one point with the 50mm 1.2)....
NO regret at all. I am soooo pleased with the 5DIII....I feel also, this was the camera I really can keep for a long, long time and stay happy!!!!!

"Is Canon trying to find out if a wacko price policy is good for business..theirs? or maybe Nikons"
Nikon has its own great strategis too : -)))
Remeber Canonn 60D (if my memory served me right) upgrade to the 10D?
A new camera is on the way Maybe.

It's the market at work. The 5DIII is a used by pros. If you were a successfully wedding photographer it was probably worth the expensive upgrade, mostly for the auto focus system. Amateurs, like myself, can probably wait a bit When did the 5DIII come out?

And how did Canon exploit you? Did they force you to buy early by giving you a over the head?
Hey, maybe they didn't exploit me, the body is currently showing a price of $3459 at B&H . They are for now just offering a 24-105, a lens which i own for $279 . No, I don't regret paying the intoductory price and no one forced me to do it. However I should have held out for the free printer and the lens for $279

Not only is Canon showing tremendous disrespect toward those who paid full price for the 5DIII, they are also showing tremendous disrespect toward independent camera shops and their distribution network. The big stores (B&H, Adorama, etc) have been granted special treatment by Canon -- small independent shops have not been included in this deal. It's not fair when places like Adorama and B&H are retailing their product for significantly less than the amount that small shops pay Canon for the exact same thing. Nikon has taken steps to protect their distribution network and create a system that is fair for everyone. Canon doesn't seem to care.

Sounds about the same as GM, Ford, Chrysler, Costco, BestBuy, Walmart, etc., etc., etc.

Canon got sued once when they had a 100 price back in the 70's. I worked in a store and we couldn't buy cameras as cheap as the big stores were selling them. It was tough but finally Canon had to put an end to it. Guess it is back?
