Although I am aiming at D3 or D3s. I need temporary body. Isaw a deal on D2hs $500.Is it worth it. My lenses are 28-70mm 2.8 af-s, 17-35mm 2.8d af-s. I don't shoot over ISO 800 . I just sold my d2h , but think D2hs might be temp fix.

D7000 all the way. Much better sensor. I've seen them for as little as $650 here on FM. 16MP vs 4MP. 13.9EV vs 10EV.

IMO, the choice is clear, unless you are really going to beat this camera to a pulp.

What do you shoot? If the D2H did the job, the D2Hs will also do the job but with cleaner JPEGs.

If you don't shoot past ISO 800 then I'd recommend D300, particularly that you mentioned the D3 and the D300 has a body to match and cheaper. The D7000 is better at high ISO though.

I sold a D90 to buy a D2x, which i promptly sold....the issue for me wasn't the iso, i HATED the arrangement of the AF points, and it was impossible to check sharpness on the lcd...aside from that i LOVED the d2x, and i'd prob feel the same about a d2h or d2hs....i sold the d2x and bought a 2nd d300 to go with my d7000 (my primary body)...

I got the d2h that I sold as package with lenses. I shot 4 weddings with it. The small files were easy to process which I don't need enlargements though. My dream is still on D3 or D3s, but in few months. I love the pro bodies coming from D1x, but not stuck with old techs. I had considered D2xs which is not highly praised anymore.
Probably look into D7000 till I can get a bargain on D3's. By the way I used my friend's D200 as back up on last wedding IMO. D2h pctures were way better, that 's just me.

If you decide on the D7000, be sure you get the grip with it. This makes the camera even more usable especially if you're coming from a pro body.

I would go with the D2hs - same cards, same batteries, same charger - no need to get SD-cards, spare EN-EL15 batteries, maybe a grip and so on. The D2-series has the best finder of all DX-bodies (important for me).

I agree with the poster above - a D300 has a much better sensor than the D2hs or the D200, will handle like you're used to and costs only the $500 you have to spend.

The D7K sensor is terrific, but I much prefer the handling of my D300s (which I chose over a new D7000). If you wind up adding a D3, you'll like the consistency of handling, too...

Yes I pretty much missed the ergonomics of my D1x body...what keeps me going is the image quality of the D7000. So to choose between the D2H or the D7000, I'd get the D7000. But as for me, I'm mulling over what to get for a FF body: D3s, D800 or D600. Time will tell.

Except for the fact that the battery life on the D7000 is so insane, that if you start the day with a full battery, odds are you wont have to replace it at all.....i've EASILY shot an entire wedding with a D7000 and had juice to spare....

Given your lenses and current shooting needs, I'd go with a decent D2Hs. I shot three wedding seasons with one and it never failed me. Beautiful small files and perhaps the best-focusing dslr I've used. I traded for a D3 which obviously was a step or two up, but no better in the focusing dept. Now using two D7000s for everything - loving the size/weight and great files - but nowhere the speed demon the D2Hs was. YMMV of course.

I fell in love the d2hs, focusing was fast felt like bullet flying out of it. Then I swicth to my friends d200 with my 17-35mm mounted on it, not only the grip pulling apart on my bracket missing shots and bad focusing. This scares me getting into consumer body.

Well, I just saw a beater D2H on the board for 250 bucks (I know nothing about it except what I read in the post). Even though I do not need it I almost pulled the trigger because I loved my D2Hs and wish I had never sold it. I was (and am) shooting soccer and that camera was great for daytime games. I do not think I would get that camera for weddings or any remotely lower light shooting, however. Only as a beater backup for outdoor sports. And I'd just shoot raw with it.

Hmmm...my guess is your friend's D200 had some issues.

The D300 uses the newer MB-D10 grip, and I've never heard any issues at all with loosening. It also has the same 51-point AF of the D3 and handles much like it as well. Along with all that and the full metal frame, weather-sealing, etc. I definitely wouldn't consider it a consumer body. My D300s moves my 80-200 f/2.8 very snappily, for example. There might be a slight difference between that and my buddy's 70-200 AFS, but I can't discern a difference in focus speed.

unless you are shooting fast paced sports where the buffer and high speed shutter are a real issue..... I'd totally recommend the D7000 over the D2hs any day.

Guy! I don't have access to most of the bodies. I rather don't spend unwisely before getting good opinions. When I got the d2h it was flying in my hand boy!. I hope to try that d300 and see. By the way is D2xs considered in the pack! Thank you guys.

The D2Xs is my current crop body. I like it very much. Trenchmonkey can likely comment, and search his posts for some examples. It is not as fast in FPS as the D2H(s) when at its basic settings, but does have the additional crop mode if you need to go faster. And it is a crop in a full-size pro body. Iso limitations vs D3, etc, but still another great body.

In the end, they are all good. And if you buy used/cheap, you likely won't lose too much when and if you sell.
