How long before Canon no longer will service the older 24-70's? I remember when Canon stop servicing the 28-70. Will the same happen to the folks who own the older models of 24-70 glass? If so when? thx.

My guess is ~5 years from the date when models are discontinued? not sure if i remember where I read that previously, but maybe someone can correct/confirm that..

It matters more for parts availability. Whether or not third party companies can repair them depends on how long Canon will make spare parts. After that then you're looking for broken versions for spare parts and then the trouble is finding someone that has experience repairing that lens.
I've also heard 5 years from discontinued date as well but can't find anything official.

That applies to a lot of older lenses, Canon or not.
