Yes, but setting up and breaking down 9 joints every time compared to 6 is still 150% as painful.

I only like 4 sections in the little travel tripods where is really matters.

True, but the locks on my Gitzo's only take about 1/3 of a turn, so it's not all that painful, and when I'm shooting with a tripod I'm rarely in any hurry.

Question for you, Gitzo has lots of tripods do you know of any to spent total of $800.00?? like an older model or something

The older model Gitzo 3531S or 3531LS should cost around $600 used if you are patient. Add the RRS leveling base with the long handle (as per EB-1 above) at $210.

no you cannot. it is not a systematic tripod.

this one will come with a top plate/stage that will allow you to screw on a head then that plate is removable for the ballhead assy

If you can't remove it, how you can use a leveling base then ?
If you go back to the 1st page it is a member using the same tripod with the base
Now I lost !!

again, that particular tripod is not in the "systematic" line so you cannot. the one i have referenced above is. Gitzo started to produce a less featured tripod awhile back to compete with the asian import models as they do not have a system type tripod. so they made these as a monolithic design. simple and less costly. you get what you pay for.

the model you referred to is a GT3531
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/569149-REG/Gitzo_GT3531_GT3531_6X_Carbon_Fiber.html

the model i referred to is the GT3532S

on this particular model you can use either:

Gitzo:
which now turns out to be discontinued because of their "new and improved won't accept the RRS system assy"
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/569209-REG/Gitzo_GS5121LVL_GS5121LV_Leveling_Base.html

or

RRS:
lighter simpler superior and most importantly available
http://reallyrightstuff.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=TA-3-LB&type=4&eq=TA3LB-001&desc=TA-3-LB%3a-Versa-3-LB-with-Platform&key=ait

be aware that gitzo has changed their platform design on their latest series of systematic tripods 2012 so that the RRS leveling platform will no longer be usable on their product. gotta protect the cash flow. so applelike.

my advise is to call B&H and ask them to be sure that this is the older 2011 tripod. this will insure that it will fit. the 2012 version will not fit. i'mm working off of little pictures just be sure to be sure.

A little off topic, but I recently discovered (perhaps it's in the manual I didn't read ), that the Gitzo G-lock only requires a twist using the tips of my thumb and index finger to lock. I was using my index finger and thumb wrapped around the lock to "crank" the G-lock tight, which when unlocking became a bit sticky. It doesn't seem to require much torque to lock them, and will likely result in a longer life of the locks.

Incidentally (??), I prefer the four leg version because I can pack it safely in my suitcase - it doesn't really take a lot of volume if you pack your shorts and socks between the legs.

Yes, and this is one of those little details those shouting their Benro/Induro/Sirui/other knock-off brand is "as good as a Gitzo" fail to make note of. If you actually take apart and compare the leg locks in detail, it's obvious to see the differences in thread pitch, precision of the machined parts, and quality of the compression fitting parts used.
