Do you think the 5D11 is at least as good or slightly better than the original 5D when it comes to auto focus (center point one shot), and high ISO noise performance? And when I say high ISO I mean no more than 3200.

Thank in advance for any replies.

5d2 is just under a stop better than the 5d for high ISO noise.

The focus is the same module but the digic is faster so this makes a little difference.

You also have live view for static stuff and manual focus adjustment which is a killer feature.

I never saw the mkii as enough to upgrade from my mk i...though live view and AFMA would have rocked. From the images i have looked at though, it always seemed to me that the mkiii was useable to 6400 iso where the mki was really noisy after 1600.

Thanks for the response Rob and Brian.

As to the upgrade to the 5D11 from the 5D, I also never thought it was enough to do however I have been using the original for the past six years, and after two new shutters and one new mirror box over the years the shutter has gone again this past week. I typically shoot approximately 75,000 shots per year. The cost of having yet another shutter put in will be close to half the price of it's resale value so I've decided to upgrade to the 5D11. The price of the 5D11 is now at $1,799.00 which pushed me in the direction I am going.

The 5D111 is out of the question due to finances at this time.

I was just looking for confirmation that the 5D11 would be at least as good in auto focus and noise levels as the 5D.

At High ISO, the 5D2 is definitely a major improvement over the 5D. If you take image size into account, the 5D at ISO 1600 looks only slightly better than the 5D2 at ISO 3200.

In terms of auto focus, the biggest differentiator between the two cameras is the 5D2's micro focus adjustment feature. I personally would never consider buying a dSLR without that feature.

As another original 5d user, all I can suggest is buy a 5d2 used, I'm going to wait and see if canon come up with a d800 competitor for around $3000 in the next six months to a year, if not then a used 5d2 for around $1000 in that time should work nicely, though the 6Ds -3ev main focus point is tempting....

Also depending what you shoot the ability to run magic lantern is a killer feature.

The LCD is much better also.

I really liked the files from the 5D, but never really liked the camera itself much. Personally, I found the 5D2 more enjoyable to shoot. As mentioned, the responsiveness is a bit better, much nicer LCD, liveview, C1-C3 custom setups on the mode dial come in handy, improved menu system, effective dust cleaning system, better high ISO ability, etc. The extra resolution also comes in handy for situations where you may need to crop heavily or make large prints. They're a great deal at today's prices IMO.

AF isn't any different, but high ISO image quality absolutely is better on the 5d2.

Thanks to everyone for their replies, even the humerus one concerning my use of 11 and 111 instead of 2 and 3. I have purchased the 5D2, grip, extra batteries and an extra charger for $2,273.99.

I will, at a future time send my 5D to Canon and see about my shutter problem which manifests itself by cutting one third of the image diagonally from the top left down towards the bottom third of the image and replacing the actual image with dark brown to black.

It also spit out what I believe to be shutter lubricant all over the sensor. The phenomenon of the image cutoff seems to only happen when using flash, two different 580 EX2 units which both work as they should with my 7D.

Thanks again to all who took the time to help me out.

Eric
