I just upgraded to CS 6 and wanted to make a new watermark ... when I click on the "actions" button, I don't see the "record" icon at the bottom ... can anyone help me ... thanks.

"Action button" !
The Action Palette has a record icon button in the bottom of the palette when it is not in button mode. I know nothing about any Action button. If your writing about the Action Palette use its fly-out menu and make sure "Button Mode" is not checked....
Watermarks are hard to do well in an Action. Russell Brown's Web site has a watermarking script that is run from an Photoshop extension panel. Still I prefer an Action that can Watermark any size images without user intervention. The Watermarking Panel requires a lots of user intervention.
