Can you tell from the serial number on a D3X if it is a USA model?
I called Nikon Technical Support and the guy on the phone said that the number I gave him had never been registered (which I already knew because the camera is NIB) he couldn't answer my question
He has elevated my question to a supervisor and promised to email me back within 48 hours
I have the serial number and would like to find out sooner than 48 hours
Is there a way to tell?
Thanks,
Bob
Have the seller forward you an image of the serial number label on the Nikon gold box. All my Nikon USA bodies had a "(U)" next to the model number on the label. I believe this is the country code. I was sold a D3 with a "(J)" code and the seller admitted he had purchased it in Japan. I promptly returned the camera for a full refund. Make sure the serial number on the box label matches the number he is providing you.
Here are three (3) examples: Sorry about the low quality images - they were taken on the spur of the moment.
nikon should be able to tell you if they want to bother. they know the serial numbers for usa pieces. when i bought my d4 they were nice enough to check and confirm that the camera was an unregistered, usa model.
