Thats my entry point pricing for a 4 hour shoot and burn. Believe me, I hate it.....but I do this full time and frankly, Im not as good as most of the photographers here. I get what I get. The area is really depressed, San Bernardino County, one of the highest unemployment rates in the area, highest home repo percentage, so i don't know. Last year I did 61 events...wedding/quinces.......this year so far....31........probably end up with 40.......i thought this year would be a good one based on last years totals..........that's why I ended up closing my studio and moving home............the weddings never materialized.....so many unprofessional low ballers just giving way the farm to make some pocket change.......brides are expecting the same............IF I have to stoop that low just to book jobs, then I'll just close up shop and collect welfare, food stamps, rob a bank or two, take down a courier....whatever to make it work.
Many factors contribute to this situation..........maybe they're just in my mind, but I tend to think otherwise.......it is what it is...FTW......
It's much easier to get 20 clients than 60 clients.
It will only get worse for you dude as clients become more "photo savvy" every year. Listen to the advice you were given or start working on a back up job soon.
And you can't really compare yourself to groupon photographers. Most don't survive a season. at $3h they get for their work it is impossible to make a living. Sergio is an ass,yet perhaps it is the kick you need so you can actually start listening to all the advice you've been given on this board.
