p.1 #1 · D600 vs Canon 6D what happens?

I am very surprised that the Canon 6D seems so uninteresting relative to the D600 and at the same price.
I don't understand how they will be able to generate excitement for the camera other than for low light shooters I guess.

How could they have been caught so behind it seems when you compare it to the D600? Lots of differences I didn't even read all of it to the end, http://www.digitalreviewcanada.com/2012/10/02/nikon-d600-vs-canon-6d-compared/

I am a Nikon shooter so it doesn't affect me although just curious, usually the cameras in the same range from Canon and Nikon are more evenly matched, no?

Will the 6D maybe drop in price at the time of availability?

Who cares, it's Canon. As long as they are pushing Nikon at other arenas we should all be happy...

From what I have seen, the Canon faithful believe it will have a better sensor with better low light performance and better, more accurate focus with only 1 cross point than the D600 with it's small array of focus sensors.

Course they do. :P Meh, it might have better AF performance at some focal lengths, but it will be because the Canon lenses at those lengths focus faster, not due to anything w/the body.

My guess is this...When the 60d and D7000 came out....the 60d was discounted a lot w/rebates, etc, to make it a great buy. You could get it for 799 refurb, 900 new, etc. Because it didn't quite match up feature wise.

The 6d vs D600 feature gap is even wider. The 6d doesn't have the moving screen to make landscape, macro, and video users buy it. The 6d only has one cross point instead of 9. The frame rate difference is greater. The 6d has less megapixels instead of more. The 6d has other missing features like no flash for commander mode, etc, that weren't applicable in the 60d vs d7000 battle.

I don't think the GPS and WiFi will make up for that in consumer's minds...

I bet the 6d will be rebated and discounted under the 2k mark pretty soon after release, making it more appealing. There is a big perceived difference between 2099 and 1999, in my opinion. Just like the 60d was rebated or discounted to under 1k. Just my guess.

I am a canon user. I ask you what does it matter? Canon and Nikon both know what they are doing. I agree it'll be 1799.00 in 6 months. In that case, it's a good deal for them (cheaper to make than the 5DmkII), and a good deal for canon users for a nice light full frame camera.

Over the last few years, Nikon certainly seems to have been more willing to put high end features in lower end cameras. Canon seems to go out of their way to cripple a lower price camera sometimes.

If I was starting from scratch in October 2012, the D600 would be my choice for sure. But after a 1dsmkII and a 1dmkIII, the 5DIII suits me fine. The 6D, eh... not so much.

Maybe he meant that the 6D doesn't use an LCD overlay on the focusing screen to show gridlines etc... ?

I have shot with both systems in the past currently all Canon. I am REALLY having a hard time not purchasing a D600 right now. On paper the D600 appears to be the clear winner. Bottom line for me will be IQ so I will TRY and hold out until Dec. to see those results. I dont mind going back shooting 2 systems if the D600 is leaps and bounds better than the 6D. I would go all in with Nikon at that point but there are a few L lenses I do not think I could part with along with my trusty 5D.....

I can't tell if you are being serious or not lol

My apologies if i'm replying to a troll post lol

The 6d does not have a movable LCD like the 60d did (that made it appealing to many people--it added value). If the 6d had an LCD screen that could be moved it would have made up for a lot of its shortcomings. But, it doesn't. Too bad, really.

Canon's excuse is that it compromises the weather sealing. But we know better---see the OM-D. They held out for marketing reasons. Their loss. It would have been a big selling point vs the D600, and made up for a lot of the shortcomings. Especially to video users (ie, see the widespread disappointment on video sites like eoshd, when the 5d3 was released without one). Too bad. Maybe Canon thinks that people being able to use their phone for live view makes up for it (I don't agree--maybe others will).

The 6D doesn't really seem any less interesting than the D600... neither one is anything to write home about.

Yeah - I know. Two whole points behind the D800e on DxO and only twice the dynamic range of the D700. *yawn*

People buy into systems not just bodies. If I am a Canon user then what matters to me is how 6D compares to other Canon cameras in terms of price and performance, and not how it compares to Nikon DSLRs. For canon users it is a lower cost FF alternative to 5DIII, just like D600 is a lower cost FF alternative to D800 for Nikon users.

I'm no canon or nikon user, but if I had to pick one it would be the 6D.
I like the slightly smaller body, if i use flash its with an external one, only 1 focuspiont is more than enough for me, as is the amount of megapixels. Changable focusscreen is great. Gps and wifi sound nice but is not that important really.

Not everyone needs 60 cross focuspoints, not everyone needs a popup flah. Stuffing a camera with features doesn't mean its more apealing to everyone.

I am kind of new here, but I have been shooting with Canon for about 5 years and was waiting to jump to FF. Long story short I sold everything Canon to move to Nikon, no banding at high ISO, very nice behavior at low light, the Flash commander, the 3.2 in screen, the focus system, dual slot and the amount of Nikon lens (manual and AFS) inspired me enough to make the the move
I have seen more than a couple of Canon users doing the same move at POYN forum
I think this camera is the beginning of Full Frame for (almost) every enthusiast and nikon played its cards nicely this time in my opinion
I just got the camera today and I am very excited
