checked the adorama link just now, and it looks like the 'special price' is back up to $500 for the v1/10-30 kit. maybe it was a misprice? at any rate, the used market for these is still very, very soft.
I got one and also the 10mm pancake lens separately. My initial impression is that its a very capable camera with a very film-like image quality due to very fine noise even at base ISO. Its dynamic range with RAW files is surprisingly very good.
Got mine, and realized. This thing is huge.
I say this having used a D3/D3s.
Compared to the Oly em5 and nex 7, it feels gigantic and not any better in ergonomics.
What is surprising is the lenses arent that much smaller than the comparable m43 or even the DX e mounts.
I loved the rx100. Amazing camera and not really need PS work. Only thing is that Sony had to use their own raw file format that won't work with LR OR PS.
I have been using PS to develop RX100 raw files for a while, go to update your LR/ACR now!
For my use, really can't find a place for Nikon 1 yet (other than NAS/GAS), It would be more applealing if it has smaller, faster lens. RX100 has a better sensor, smaller size while M43, NEX (with adapter) is quite good to use MF F mount lens (I can crop to get the 3.x TC)
I don't consider $399 to be "cheap" (I have seen M43 kits cost around that), I just consider it was overpriced.
I recently bought a Panny GX1 and am using my Nikkor lens with it. I am stunned at the quality this camera can produce. I even tested it side by side with my D700 at 6400 ISO and although it couldn't beat the D700 it produced an amazing image that would have blown my old D300 out of the water at that ISO
V1
10-30mm lens
10-100mm lens
FT1 adapter
Flash
Case
$899. Not pocket change, but I total up the V1 and 10-30mm deal at $400, the 10-100 at $750, the FT1 at $190, the flash at $150, case - meh, total about $1500 in normal prices so $600 off is an interesting deal too.
What's bothering me is the proprietary hotshoe which appears to not work with current nikon flashes, or with a radio trigger for instance. And the 10-30mm plus 10-100mm overlap. Would prefer to have the 10-100 and a pancake prime I'd think
very tempting, but the V2 is more of what I want and I've got other needs to fill with my DX set-up first ... that is if I choose to fill it out. The way nikon is treating the parts & service issue and the lack of a D300 replacement is pissing me off.
My buddy grabbed it and we've been playing with it today. He's VERY pleased.
We slapped a 2X TC on it with his 70-200, and were pretty amazed at the photos we were getting, sharpness-wise (though I switched to MF to get less hunting).
With any of the V1 lenses or the FT-1 with no converter the thing was snappy and sharp. If I could justify the money, that kit would be my new travel rig...

A camera system becoming famous because of crazy price drops is a strange aspect of this Nikon 1 system. No one really cared for Nikon 1 system until the price begun to plummet... And why pay even $200 for V1 kit when V2 kit might plummet even more... at least one can turn off image review in V2!
I like my V1, but at the same time I'm glad I was not one of those who bought it full price when it was released.

i think the market is just determining that the v1 and j1 were just plain overpriced...and the v2 is no different imo...but that at the right prices (i think current prices are probably lower than they need to be to move a lot of cameras), these things will sell and will take market share.

Really this is what it shoulda cost to begin with! I gotta admit, the V2 would be extremely tempting if the F mount adapter supported proper C-AF...and if OS worked on Sigma lenses!
