Hm, I have to travel to Iceland some time, and why not with other think-alikes? A major problem is that I don't have any camera, and I'm not really a landscape shooter anyway. Won't be participating in any long term planning, but if there is a possibility to go I might grab a last minute ticket.
So if I join I have absolutely no idea of which camera I will bring.
Many thanks alundeb for holding the rudder. I'm in the right list.
I am no landscaper but that is one of the things that draws me to Iceland - and of course to meet some of you guys and learn. Cant think of any trip right now that would interest me more than this, pleasure, learning, 4x4 travel and so on in the unique landscape I understand Iceland has.
I'm a gearhead but will stay pretty put with what I have, mainly a 5D2 with a range of Contax lenses. If I should add anything specifically for this trip, it would be a tilt-shift lens. This to really indulge in landscaping :-)
I'm in the right list. While I wouldn't say I'm actually planning yet I've been pondering with the though of another Iceland trip for the last years and this would be a great opportunity.
Equipment wise it'll be less alt than I used to have. No more adapted lenses atm.
Pretty happy with my current gear right now. 5DII with ZE primes (21/2.8, 25/2, 35/2, 50/2), Sigma 70/2.8 Macro and CV 125/2.5. Maybe the Canon 300/4 IS (not too happy with it though) and I'd seriously consider renting a 600 or 800 with gimbal for some shots of the Lundeys and the like.
I have a feeling the number of Zeiss lenses in Iceland will multiply at least ten-fold with the arrival of you guys :-) Not to mention other alternatives like Rokkors and such! Iceland could rightly be called "Canonland" based on what locals own.
MichaD: By "Lundeys" do you mean Puffins? If the answer is yes, you can get a close head shot with a 135mm lens :-) They're not very shy at all.

On the long end i consider just bringing the Sony 70-300G, with an EA-1 adapter. This is troublesome, as the long focal lengths excite me most even for landscape, and I would like to use the D800 up there.

You can borrow my Pentax Q. It has 12 megapixels, and according to some, that is enough even for landscape

Of course it depends a lot on the timeframe but I'm also interested (my wife even moreso; Iceland is her fixture anyways) though I'm not an alt shooter.

I guess there are no restrictions on what to shoot with, only what we can discuss here
If your wife is determined, that can make wonders with the priorities
Iceland is a seriously amazing place. I was there 6-8 weeks ago and was there for just under 1 week and I found that to be very tight with respect to time. One of the places that you should go by yourself or extremely committed photographers because you do not want to be rushed while taking your photos
I thought I would share an image taken. Taken with X-Pro 1 with Fuji 35mm f1.4 and B+W 10 Stop ND. Previously I was shooting with Canon 5D3 and Lee Bigstopper but it was raining. After several failed attempts at keeping the square filter dry, I switched to using the Fuji.
Well I am in - booked our honeymoon there in Jan for 7 nights, split between Reykjavik and Akureyri.
In other words it's a package trip, so photography will be what opportunities exist under those limitations.
Perhaps a coffee with the Reykjavik guys is possible?
Will be packing the Contax N 24-85 and prob the 75-300, so new Zeissland here we come! If space permits the Planar 50/1.4 and FD Ts 35/2.8 will also be in.

Cool, then I could get the 300-800mm Sigmonster as my primary landscape zoom
naa, he can haul around my Leica Telyt 280/4 ;-)
it is leitaxed to Nikon though.
My Zeiss set will probabely tripple the Islandic Zeissness
I also have a number of Nikon Zooms,
very light rather good 28-80 3,5-4,5
a 70-300 VR, a 80-200 2.8 ED
no idea so far what I will bring.
I am not so fond of the 70-300, but those images indicate it is a good focal length.
80-200 is better, but I am not sure I want to carry it around all day.
...and the 280/4 Telyt with 1,4 and 2,0 converter for Wildlife if Xtobolic carries it
or it can sit in the car between uses.
I will probabely have a second body by then, most likely either D7000 or D600
or I sell my D700 and get a D800(e)
