Found this strange looking creature actually crawling around a leaf in our yard this evening. If I hadn't seen it moving around I wouldn't believe it. Any clue as to what it could be? I apologize for it not being a good shot but best I could get at where it was.

Looks like a wooly aphid.

Bit hard to tell but I'd guess on it being a lacewing nymph disguised with bug carcasses.

A wooly aphid has coarse, lank, waxy strands of hair orginating form its dorsum and you can see the head and legs (maybe not clearly). In this case, there are the skins of (probably) aphids piled up, some of thier appendages partially visible. So Brian is probably correct.

If you have further shots, in which the long, curved mandibles are visible, that with confirm it.
