p.1 #1 · What is around this cat?

5Dc + Canon 50 1.4 @ f/2, ISO 640, Speed 1/200...no flash

I thought it was some background because some is the same...AE lock / AF, used back button to focus, shifted to left just a bit and shot...center focal point, spot metering, AI Servo...

I normally shoot center point, spot metering, AI Servo most of the time for motorsports, but have shot stationary subjects before set to AI Servo, and never had a problem...This is the first time I have used the AE lock / AF and backbutton...

Look around the cat's tail...

Any ideas?

Working on a new way to shoot (for me)…late afternoon shot…maybe light reflecting off the cat…I was pretty close to the cat and the angle I shot with the sunlight on the cat…shot is fairly sharp, no blur from camera movement…

it appears around the head too...something wrong with the sensor...that would be the worst CA I have ever seen if it was sensor related.

Are we talking about the brownish halo? Could it just be the color of the foliage? It doesn't look continuous to me.

If you look to the left there's a patch of foliage that's somewhat brown. If the cat was on top of that, right by the edge of it, you might give a similar effect.

I think it has more to do with the light and the angle I shot...I think the sensor's ok...

I haven't using the back button to lock focus and then shifting much, so I want to see if it is something I'm doing wrong...

Maybe a new 5D III would fix this

That was my first thought, but the way it shows on the tail has got me courious...

a 5DIII has been shown to be good at emptying a bank account...

I don't think it is foliage, since it somewhat follows the curves of the cat, at the tail, the head and over the head...its very odd looking.

No sharpening...no contrast...no adjustments except for CA in LR4 (default with this camera and lens combo in LR)...

I think you can copy this one...not protected

Nothing that you could judge by...I'll take something with a longer lens in a little while so I don't have to be as close...50mm with f/2 up close is too shallow a DOF to tell...

Just started to shoot this way...by the way, I posted a shot of a panning technique using the back button in that panning thread...
