Stop the whining. You should be grateful that another feature found on Nikon's high end bodies has also been included on an entry level DSLR

Cheers

Way of making a non-issue an issue. We just have to live with it.

Nikon pronounced themselves regarding the green cast months ago. Their official response, paraphrased, was along the lines "The new colour reproduction is more accurate; and that is that. Suck on a fruit if you don't like it, we ain't changing it".

My D800 has a bit of the green cast. So? It gives me beautiful files. LCD's are for reference.

If someone doesn't like it they can always wait and overpay for a Canon 6D..

@vtec44 I agree, an LCD is for composition, and a sample of exposure... its not a computer screen, or was it intended to be, its Only a Reference Point...

@davidnholtjr

D600 looks very light green D700 looks Magenta.... So now what?

Don't know. I for one could careless if the camera LCD has a tint or not. As long as the file doesn't have it when viewed on the computer then all is good.

The D600, D800 and D4 have totally new LCD screens and are not going to look the same as older LCDs from 4-5 years ago.

Thanks for the comparison. I, too, can see a clear difference in the LCD's. The D700 LCD looks much more natural, so now you've given me 1 more reason to stick with Old Technology rather than pay money for the "The Latest Technology" which doesn't work as well.

Again, thanks for posting the comparison.

+1 I could care less if there is a slight tint if the final files do not reflect this.

Yes, I have also a green tint. Quite clear when comparing reality or photos on computer monitor (which are beautiful). LCD useless to adjust white balance. If not solved, the D600 (received September 20), will go back.

IMHO it seems that too much is being made of this perceived or real tint issue on the new Nikons. I own a D800 and only review my LCD for exposure. My histogram screen is the most important and maybe highlights second. I could care less about everything else.

Be lucky that we have something on the back to review. My old film cameras didn't have anything.

of course it's not a matter and we mostly adjust wb with ps etc but why a new product has such a failure, i don't have to accept that.

you guys just need to go out and shoot and stop worrying about a silly tint.

I'll say it again, the D600/800/4 have different LCDs and will not look the same as 4-5 year older ones.

When I first saw this post early in the day, the first thought I had was is this a real issue or is this a troll by someone who has only 18 posts (socaltyger) at that time? So I gave it a little time to understand more about the issue.
Than another poster with only 2 posts (CCorinne) said that he/she too have the same issue, so I thought that it might be a real issue.

After analysing the pictures by the OP I found that something is not right.
In the D700 picture I found that both the front and rear retangular panels are white, while the D600 picture shows that the front panel is greenish and the rear panel is white.

With years of working with all the leading display manufacturers and running a specialised team investigating display issues, we have never come across issues like this. It is just impossible because if the display was tinted, it will all have the same tint and not segmented like this one. All I can conclude is that the D600 picture was doctored in some way during exposure. The difference in color is due the difference in angle of incidence and angle of reflection of light for the two panels.

With all these issues reported on the D800s which users like us never encounter, we get a little suspicious at time especially with people saying that they heard this or read this form so and so.

Is this a troll or not you readers decide?

It's not a failure but rather a refinement according to Nikon.

You would need to convince Nikon otherwise. Good luck with that..

This has to be asmall issue. I have always felt that Nikon cameras and the LCD showed some ugly greens compared to any Canon I've used.

But I don't use LCD for this purpose. shoot rawand edit.

Frankly to me the D600 looks better. If you look at the lettering at the bottom of the screen it is nice and white whereas the D700 has a dark tint tending towards red.
