Will be fun to hear from some of you landscape shooters especially, on their experience, the quality of files etc...
At 1000 bucks it sure is a deal and ooks like its doing well for Sigma.

I ordered one. Lots of info on this thread here http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/other-cameras/39705-sigma-dp2-merrill-shots.html

If you have the time to load this http://www.pbase.com/ianvermeer/image/146003874/original through an airplane window but still insane detail.

There are a lot of examples on the net already, The DPm2 Merrill seems to perform better as the DPm1 Merrill, probably due to the lens. The 30mm Sigma seems to be extreemly good.

That is a crazy amount of detail in that shot! Just the front top edge of the turbine along the water looks a little weird, like steps.

I think the pixels just don't come any smaller

Yes?

As soon as I have an extra 1K, I will more than likely pick a DP2M up.

I have been trying for weeks to find one, no luck so far. I settled for a dp2 until I find the Merrill. Btw: Foveon is really amazing. To me even the cheap dp2 comes close to a Sony 5N and a Leica R 28mm E55 version which I used for about 6 months. I imagine the dp2m is even better.

I have the dp2 merrill. It is an incredible sensor lens combination. The amount of detail is phantastic.
It is a perfect landscape camera. Also great for architecture, because the lens has no visible distortion, and is sharp into the extreme corners. The lens also has a very nice bokeh and 9 blades. The autofocus is slow but precise. Write times are slow, because the raw files are big, between 50-60 mb. They do hold a lot of information. What I read, it is better with a very fast SD card. The menue is better than that of the Nex 5n. It looks like an cheap old point and shoot camera. But the design and menue system is very well thougt out. What i miss, is a nex 5n like tilt screen, an evf option, and a remote option. You can use the 2 sec self timer instead. Not a problem for landscapes. It does have a hot shoe. Great for putting a spirit level in.
Works also great with Nikon 3T and 4T close up lenses. I use it with a B+H 900 rubber lens hood. It is not an available light camera. Use it between Iso 100-400. The latest firmware update increased the AF speed and added some features like setting of the ISO Sensitivity in steps of 1/3 EV and the setting of the Lower limit and Upper limit of the ISO Sensitivity in ISO Auto mode.

But the images this camera creates are absolutely incredible. There is no sharpening necessary. Great for stock shooters. Tack sharp at 100% enlargement. And the detail you will find in your images.....
I get the feeling that Sigma put a lot of efforts into getting the most out of this lens, and they are able to built a world class lens on Leica level. They certainly managed that.

I don't know how to post images here.

Bear in mind that there's a 5-6 shot buffer, so as long as you're not pressing off shots like a lunatic, you don't need to wait 50-60s before you take the next shot.

Why can't they just make these things quick/responsive ? It surely can't be that difficult I'm sure people would pay a little extra for a quicker processor.

Just upload to picasa/flickr/photobucket or some image host like that and then post a direct link to the image. Then the image will be embedded in the post.

Probably a heat vs size issue. I believe the raws are around the size of those from a Nikon D800 for instance.

OK Huyls and GlacierPete -

you have peaked my interest! My only question is:

will I have to shoot raw with a DP2m or is the jpeg out of camera also spectacular??

Thanks Hulyss -

Will the Sigma software work OK with the Raw files - will it do justice to them - or will I need something else to process the raw files?

Thanks again Hulyss -

I am going to pre-order a DP2m - not in stock quite yet at B&H - but very soon I believe.
