Shot christening on sunday.
Day started with being locked out of the gear room - lock just disintegrated. Called emergency locksmith. $250, not bad for a sunday.

At the ceremony, dropped 5Dc and 85L(II) 1.2 from a height of about 3' onto a marble floor.
Camera repair $225
Lens repair $2400 or so, i.e. uneconomical to repair. Ouch.

Excess = $250

Yes Im insured. Bummer of a day though.

That's the most important thing....getting fed well

Yikes, that is indeed an awful sequence of events! Makes me glad I've got a backup 85mm should I ever damage mine. I'm pretty careful, but do have clumsy moments, so I think it's only a matter of time before I drop something "big" like this :/

Just curious how it would be more to fix a lens to purchase a new one. That just does not make sense to me. Why even give you a quote for that much when it is basically unrepairable?

Greek food makes it all worth while.

I hate Greek food. I would be even more upset after that.

At least you didn't have to pay to fix the marble floor. The 85L is a beast.

Weaksauce

You don't have CPS? That'd be a $250 flat rate repair or replacement for the 85L where I am

Well, on your foot it might have broken the fall and saved the lens.

I do have CPS. $250 to replace front element USM and a bunch of other stuff?

I didn't have CPS and my 85L II fell right onto concrete during a shoot, broken and wouldn't focus at all. It was out of warranty too, but I submitted it to Canon and they fixed it to my dismay, free of charge, though it did take 5 weeks.
