Have you been on Amazon recently?
Canon is having a fire sale on all their camera. It's like they are going out of business or something.
Not here. Nikons are.
And do you know why?
Because it's December now and their quarterly sales are below projections ... again.
Like in the last quarter.
I am pretty sure Amazons pricing does not have much to do with Canons.
If Amazon decides to earn less at any sold camera, it is their decission.
The good news is that we might have seen the best of Canon's premium pricing.
Now back to the business of providing value for customers. What a novel idea.
Those look quite good, thank you Ralph!
And about that beer, anytime my friend
I also feel humbled being here on FM. Fred has created a wonderful forum, such talent and imagery displayed each day, diversity for vision, style, opinion, inspiring to say the least
I've a felling the 6D will not disappoint...

So, yeah, I don't think that they know how to sell cameras.
You are too funny. They have only been selling cameras for 79 years. Proves they don't know a thing about selling cameras. And yeah, they are the first company I have ever heard of that has fire sales and discounted prices. More

Heh, don't be so literal. Of course they know how to sell cameras.
But when they start consistently mispricing products - and later sell them on fire sales, then you wonder if they know what they are doing .
Again: I do not see any fire sales here in germany
Nikon does (or dealers selling Nikon). D800 800$ less after 10 month or D600 450$ less after 2.5 month. Great savings. Canon is boring here in lowering prices.
Just checked Best Buy, and some are starting to get some in stock...I'm going to call first to see if they have any out on display before driving 1.5 hours one way! I might just get to touch one before Christmas...
That's a distinct possibility Ralph...there's one job I'd like to pick up, doing portraits for local gymnasts and the 6D would make my life a whole lot easier to work in the low light of the gym (with respect to my 5Dc). Of course it'd be sync'd to some off-camera lights, but the cleaner high-ISO makes the light's job a lot easier too...

You are reading too much into my post.
It's not the camera that ticks me off, btw; it's mostly the rampant kool-aid drinking .
Well, it is what it is .
Seriously, the 6D is a very good concept overall.
And any gripes with the camera will be easily overlooked when the price comes down to match the specs.
I predict that Canon will be somewhat disappointed by where the price settles.
But hey, they did it all to themselves. They should have invested more in core features rather than ... hmm, gimmicks.
Like a good AF, for example .
Anyway, happy 6D.
And don't get me wrong, I might actually buy one ... when the price drops to $1600 (and it will). ...Show more →
Center point focusses in -3EV.....that's a gimmick? That's not a good AF?
I mean will Canon finally produce a camera that meets EVERYONE'S needs at a price EVERYONE can afford? They're really starting to piss me off.....
Well, I went to Best Buy earlier in the evening and they had two 6D bodies that they just received. AFter playing with one for a bit, I bought it.
First impressions (coming from a 5Dc user):
Smaller size and weight is definitely appreciated and noticeable
High ISO is crazy good
Silent shutter mode is really awesome
Build feels nice
Autofocus is nothing to write home about (although I only ever use the center point)
Remote shooting with the iOS app is awesome...they need to make an iPad version!

Tell me if finally there is one beneath your "Tannenbaum", Mike.

Congratulations! I am pretty sure an IOS version will follow. Much pleasure with it.
Keep me/us informed and show some real life pictures, please.

Nobody can make such a camera, so why would Canon be able to
