I've taken to photographing people that get in my way. The mindlessly unaware that they are costing the couple precious memories... I will soon have enough to make a little flip book.

What should I call the book? So much room for creativity here.

Keep them all in a bag. You can call it - The Douche Bag.

I really don't want to come off as a jerk, but how exactly is taking a picture of this helping anyone? Wouldn't it be more productive to lean around the offender and get the photos for theclient rather than getting upset that an invited guest is taking pics? Sure it's annoying, but it's a part of our job!

I like the forum title. 'The Guest'. I'd speak to Amazon and see if they'll publish it or something! If tweets from the fake Queen can get a book deal, I'm sure this can!

I'm sure he still got HIS shot, but also took this one for this specific reason. I do that from time to time......i'll still get my shot, the one that I had to move either around or in front of rude guests who for some reason think I don't matter.

Maybe dressing like a guest has some impact on that ? Instead of the hired professional ? Just remembering some comments made in another post.

My favourite title so far is:

Shoot them all.

I did step around her and get the shot but I also took this. Sometimes they ruin the shot completely - usually when I am working with telephotos.

Be thankful they weren't using an iPad. I was NOT shooting, was just enjoying my daughters graduation, when the person next to me kept sticking an iPad in front of my face to get pictures

Maybe I missed "ruined" somewhere in the post. However, this has happened to me before because a guest jumped in front of me because she was excited for the coming moment. No big deal really. It only get's bad when everyone is doing it. Out job can get rather interesting if you don't have respectful guest. I've had a girl tell me to 'move because the bride is my cousin and she invited me'. I suppose I was there to wait for her to capture the wedding on her phone.

All in all this is for fun.

Yeah in this day and age people are far more apt to be rude and uncaring as opposed to 15 years ago. That's America today.

Exactly. It's a wedding, these things happen, deal with it. The only way it's ruining precious moments and memories is that you're choosing to take this photograph instead of what you should be doing. (And yes, I'm sure that you still got 'the shot' yourself, but what does this add to the conversation, honestly?)

Excuse me, but one could argue that complaining / venting about bobs is taking it too seriously. A decent analogy would be a professional athlete being incredulous when fans bust out vuvuzelas and hoot and holler while playing.

In this situation, don't take it so seriously and personally. Take a step to the side, ignore Bob, and get your photos. I am quite certain this guest was not out to ruin anyone's day, or be intentionally rude, etc. This was just a guest popping in front of you. Yes, it sucks.

Anecdote:
Last summer I was shooting a speech given by brothers of groom, figured out a perfect composition and exactly as they ended a joke and began cracking up, priceless laughs among brothers, a Bob quite literally jumped out of his seat, stood directly in front of me no more than 3 feet, and starting blasting them with his 430EX.

Instead of immediately sidestepping and ignoring him, I took a picture of him in my way, then sidestepped. Except I had missed the perfect moment. And what did I get in exchange? I confirmed that Bob got in my way, and a photo of Bob that I deleted during first round of culling. Great.

I understand that it's annoying, obnoxious, and maybe even rude, but it's part of our job and it's only going to get worse. At least we don't have to work in a cube all day, so I'm pretty darn happy dealing with occasional bobs.
