The shots continue to impress! My fall has been full but sadly not with photography. Thanks for allowing me to live vicariously through y'all!
Peter, I have a question. Regarding the 4 shot sequence of the heron fishing, you've captured it facing left/right/head on and left again. Shall I assume it was walking around and you were stationary? Or have you also mastered Star Trek-like teleportation?
Nice closeups of non-vegan pijuns Peter
We've a few large Grey Herons down in a local wetlands, either sunning or fishin for dinner, there's a big white one also, it's quite the sight taking off, haven't managed a clear shot yet, perhaps this winter!

Cam, I started doing frontal shots of it, and then I quickly moved along the edge of the pond behind bushes, so as to gain a better side perspective. In that time the bird might have turned its side to me as well, which helped. All around, less than ideal conditions, and with 1DsMkII at ISO 800 and shutter speed at inadequate 1/650 sec, the lens wide open.
Great collection of shots indeed. I picked up the 5D mark3 for fall landscapes but wasn't able to get out - except on smokey/hazy days. These white tailed jack rabbits live in the park in front of my house. I used the mark3, 500 f4 and 1.4 extender. The shots were processed in LR 4.

Jerry, two tips if I may: bring some live bait with ya.....you can get a whole bunch of fish from a pet store. Then, get real close to them birds, the closer, the better. The rest is easy.
Peter, that sounds like a sound plan, the trick is to figure out how to keep these still fingers and gears from getting fishy as I bait n shoot I'll give it a go tho, popcorn seems to work for ducks n swans n such...
Just picked up a 17-40L from an FMer, should have it soon, I've had the urge to shoot a local pier and it's surf regulars, will bring the 40D/17-40 and 50D/300 w1.4, the trip is in two weeks, hope to post images soon after!

Very good lens, that 17-40L. Probably an all time favourite of Canon landscape photographers.
Jerry, looking forward to your test shots with it.
Super racing shots Psyc!
Limerock looks like a great place to shoot!
A big racing fan here, started in my youth, late 60s and 70s, watching open wheel on TV, then live at the drags, SCCA and NASCAR events in SoCal. Going to try and make the NHRA Winter Nationals this year, we'll see how wheelchair seating is, hope to get a few shots.
Keepem those images coming, luv those racing machines
