I take it you now have one?

Oh, no. If I were to buy, I would wait some months to let the early adopters get the bugs worked out.

New canon pricing strategy- give less, charge more. The same as with lenses. Now we have a choice beetwen 6d and 5dmkIII. What a pro would choose- of cource 5dmkIII wchich is 1/3 more expensive that mkII (no longer in lineup).

Canon has been paying attention to FM's wedding forum discussion on how to raise price and make money. I'm just waiting for Canon marketing gurus giving exclusive talks at the annual Photokina to Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Fujifilm reps to learn.

That test was done in brighter light, wasn't it? Didn't he say something along the lines that the results he got may not apply to low light?

Yeah. It would be very surprising though if its focusing got better in low light than it was in bright light.

I don't know about that. It's already been found that the 6D is superior to the 5D3 when it comes to time it takes to lock focus in low light. Center point of the 5D3 is specified by Canon to be inferior to the low-light focusing capabilities of the 6D center point.

Too bad the 5DIII doesn't allow for changing focusing screens like what the 6D can do.

It's just a shame that the 5DIII sensor is lagging behind the 6D sensor. First scientific test results starting to come in. In summarizing the test results comparing the 1Dx to the 5DIII to the 6D, it was stated:

"Conclusion : Canon ... succeeded in obtaining [6D] sensor performance almost similar to those of the 1DX and noticeably superior to those of the 5D mark III."

Who woulda guessed: "noticeably superior" at a much cheaper price than 5DIII.

From the early sensor test results it's looking that, in some regards, the 6D is a bigger improvement over the 5D3 than what the 5D3 improvement is over the 5D2!

But a pro would choose, of course, the 5D3 over the 6D.

Both the D600 and 6D are clearly NOT aimed at pros. These are both cameras designed to lure enthusiasts shooting on crop sensors cameras to move up to a full frame sensor (hence the use of SD as the storage medium). It also strikes me that these cameras would be perfect family shooting and vacation/travel photography rigs allowing pros to leave their pro gear for paying jobs.

What the emergence of these two cameras makes me wonder is what is the future of the high end crop sensor camera (7D and D300s successors)?

I definitely expect Uncle Bob to be sporting

Whats wrong with SD? Nothing! I prefer SD over CF any day. Because they are not so called "pro" cameras, are you gonna knock someone who shoots professionally with one? I shot the last 2 years with 5 D7000's. Why? because I cant afford 5 D3s's. We got in to doing a lot of video work and needed to have 3-4 cameras and I wanted 1 for a backup just in case. So I sold my D700's to get D7000's and never looked back. LOVE THEM!!!! If it's in the budget we might upgrade all 5 D7000's to D600's. I like to have al of the same cameras so I dont have to think when I go from camera to camera.

With that said, last week we did a fashion set with my assistants D600's. Love them. So I think we may find it in our budget to get 5 of them.

Heard that the 6D doesn't have the black-focus-point issue that the 5D3 does.
Heard 6D focus points light in red, same as 5D2.

Of course, the pro would choose the 5D3.
