If this camera does not have banding issues it could be a good backup for the rare times one might expect to have to use their backup. Particularly If the auto focus is a noticable improvement over the 5D2 .

It will be interesting to see where the image performance is in relationship to the 5dmkiii/5dmkii.

looks like more fodder for the Uncle Bob & Bobette area.

I do see this working in as a starter camera or as a 2nd camera for husband/wife teams.
Maybe a back up camera for others.

even if the only usable point is the center when it gets dark, there are plenty shooters who will chose between a 7D or a 6D. Full frame would win out. should be better at higher iso.

At least there is another choice for full frame camera.

Seems like based on specs alone it's a half-step behind the D600 in many respects but the same price.

Apparently this won't be out until Decemeber.

I frankly think this is great for pros. A couple of years ago performance FAR worse than this used to cost more. This means a frugal photographer can get great performance and maintain better profitability.

I will be watching this in interest. If it is 11-pt AF based on FF sensor size then the spread should be better than the cropped d7k AF derived with the D600. Especially if it is all X-type and has similar AF flexibility as the 7d.

I just had a shoot yesterday afternoon. Shot with 50 1.4 Siggy. Mostly wide open @ISO100. Most of the photos per the exif were > 1/4000. The D600 would've been useless thanks to the crippled shutter speed. Something that I don't quite understand.

Will see. I might nab a cheap 1ds-something instead.

I don't think it would have been useless if you just dropped down to ISO 50, right?

That's true on the focus points though if they are spread across the entire frame. I'd rather have 11 across the entire frame than 39 just in the center.

Any camera can push ISO 50. I prefer native ISO. Still lack of faster 1/4000 is limitation for my use. I'm puzzled since the d7k can go 1/8000.

OK so saw the official spec of the 6d. 11-pt AF with center X-type. Boo.

I guess I'll have to suck it up and get a 5d3 now.

I wanted full frame with wireless flash trigger (like 7D).
Also, ditching the thumb joystick is a no go for me.

I'll stick with my 7d and 5d II combo for this year and consider a 5D III for next year if the prices come down.

The changes are definitely incremental at this point. They can always make DSLRs with more megapixels, higher definition video, wireless connectivity, etc, but the days of drastic changes in image quality appear to be over, except in the areas of dynamic range and noise control...which are still moving very, very slowly.

Methinks the 5D3 should've been called the 6D (pro AF etc etc) and the 6D called the 5D3.

The 6D looks like an incremental upgrade to the 5D2.. like going from a 40D to a 50D. Next years' model. Would've been more appropriate to call this the 5d3 and then put the real $3400 5d3 as a new model line.

$2100 is a great price, can't argue with that. Better sell my 5D2's soon.

D600 has the option of ISO setting from 50 to ISO 25600 equivalent.

D700 has native ISO range 200-6400. I sometimes dial it down to L-1 which is equivalent ISO 50 in a sunny day.

D600's native ISO range is better than D700 in this case.
