I don't think I have ever seen one of these for sale... or in person.
My local dealer is National Camera Exchange and they have a few ebay sellers. I get nothing for sharing this, but the current bid is too good, so I thought some who are looking for a long lens might be interested in a Minolta MC APO Tele Rokkor-X 400mm f5.6. Current bit is like $150

I'm curious to know what level of "APO" Minolta was talking about here. Is it Mamiya APO or Sigma APO?
The fact that I can see a screw with a somewhat reflective finish in the second photo, that's not necessarily something that gives me comfort, especially on an older lens that might be used in the digital era.

I know nothing about the lens... just saw it for $155 on their website and thought... not bad for what was Minolta's "best" tele in the pre-AF era. As far as I know, Minolta did not build any long & fast glass until they introduced their AF-bodies.
like I said... just find it to be curious item. Just for a guess... it's probably not all that different from the original Nikkor ED 400mm f5.6. That lens was not an IF lens. In fact, NIkon's first foray into the edif world was with a 400 f3.5 edit. I owned that lens a long-long time ago. It was so beat up, but what a performer.
I don't shoot a micro 4/3 or nex body, but I'll bet it would be pretty sharp on one of those if stopped down to f8.
cheers,
bruce

Nay, look at the slot it sits in. It must be inside the lens, I think. freaklikeme wrote:
I'm pretty sure that screw is a reflection from something in front of the lens.

I have the exact same model of lens and my experience with it has been nothing but extremely positive. I really like this lens. If you look through the 300 and above and minolta tele threads you can see some of my shots. By the way, the mount conversion is super easy.

That does seem like a very weird place for a screw. It also seems unusually large with an equally large washer of some sort behind it. Did you buy it sebboh?
I researched this lens a while back and everything I found was very positive, but it's rare to find one for a decent price.

nah, i didn't want to spend more than $350 given the slight hazing.
i too have never really heard anything bad about it. the apo is supposed to be deserved. on the other hand there can't be that many people who have used them and also used comparable non-rokkor lenses...

are there visible metal screws inside your copy?

Okay, it wasn't a reflection. There's more than one screw in there, too.
So I picked up one that needs a cleaning (hopefully that's all it needs) for $250. We'll see how it goes. I'm not a big fan of the 300/4.5, but that's mostly because it's not well corrected. I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable, but it would be great to pick up a bargain super-tele and have it work out.
