So, I exchanged my first copy for another. The store was great, no hassle, no questions. Great service. I'll check for decentered lens + how the color cast is on this one. If lens is good, and cast to live with, I'm all good, I think. Sometimes you gotta use the camera to make photographs, not test it to death. Hopefully this one is good.

This is f3.5, all auto lens corrections set to OFF, levels/white point adjusted to 255. Should have been at f2. But what's the verdict? I see a little more cyan vignetting/cast in lower left, this is consistent with a few other shots today. Not sure I care.

Try pointing it at the sky or a well-lit white wall and focusing at the MFD/infinity respectively, i.e. way out of focus...

When I white balanced using the center of the photo, and brought exposure down a little bit with this shot, it does seem like the bottom left corner has some cyan shift, and the other three have a bit of magenta shift, but it's tough to tell whether it is a big deal or not. Like Carsten mentioned, we need some infinity shots at f2 with a tissue over the lens, pointing at the sky.

Agree, even with the M9 with the latest FW updates, there are magenta/cyan shifts that are still there, but in use it is not noticeable. Previously I had used C1 Pro to remove colour casts, but it no longer needed, at least for the Leica lenses. So far with the RX 1, this has not been as issue in use, but if needed could be quickly corrected in C1 or corner fix

That's how I feel too. If I really look I can see the shift in some of my test shots, but so far I have never felt any need to correct it in the real life photos. In most shots it's not visible at any size.

So far I feel that the beautiful rendering and small size more than makes up for its shortcomings.

How do you all find the AF? After the negatives I had read I am pleasantly surprised. It's not exactly fast, but not annoyingly slow either and seems very accurate. Yesterday I compared it with 5D + 35L in really low light. RX1 could focus (sometimes it took a second or two though) on things I couldn't even see in 5D's viewfinder. Afterwards it turned out that all RX1 shots were in focus and 5D had sometimes missed completely. Obviously 5D isn't the best AF camera there is

, but it has served me well since 2008, so I'm very pleased. It will be very interesting to see how RX1 performs for family photography during the holidays.

Helena, hopefully I get the phraseology correct here - I miss the phase focusing ability of the 5D MK III and have to constantly find an edge (aka contrast) focus on it and then recompose - in low light, of course. But, yes, I am happy with it.

Shooting portraits of family and friends in social settings is a strength of this camera. I am getting great IQ for these type of shots and the small size is much less intrusive.
AF is accurate and fast enough for most non moving subjects. CDAF is a going to be always slower than PDAF. I like the EVF too and it works well enough for me. I will always like OVFs in DSLRs better but this EVF is fine for this type of camera. Glad to no longer have to look foolish holding the camera at arms length to focus via back display.

Helena, I like the light in the clouds of your last shot.

I will post crops of my earlier landscape shot with jogger and it will show that this lens performs well at distance if focused properly.
I did accidentally hit a button in the dark and took a short video and then got scared when after hitting the delete button to delete the video and then saw the message on the screen saying it was deleting multiple files. I was scared it was deleting my stills and so I quickly turned the camera off. I agree with MR that Sony's video and still playback coexisting functionality/user interface needs to be fixed to behave more simply like Canon/Nikon cameras.

Mine is as round as I could expect from f/2 to f/4.5 or so, and then gets a little bit more uneven from f/5.6 and on. Nothing to worry about at all.

Edit: And I wouldn't worry even if it looked like the worst examples on dpreview.

Some of my ZFs also are a bit non-circular. I even asked Lloyd Chambers once, some of his ZFs also were a tad non-circ.

You can't change the size of the focus box.

^ True, that's a nice thing with the X-E1.

I've decided that the RX1 isn't the camera for me at this price point ($4200 here). It's too much money for what it does for me. Besides I'm not confident with the quality, I get the feeling it's assembled in a hurry. Maybe later sometime. Well, at least I gave it a shot.
