It would be great if a few RX1 users could shoot a white wall, or maybe shoot into the sky with a white. tissue over the lens, so that we can see the color shift fingerprint for a few copies.

That's good to hear. Besides poor white balance in sunlight mine seems just fine, but I have never been an early adopter before and it's a lot of money, so maybe I'll return mine while I still can. I could always buy another one later some time when they have worked out the bugs, but I'd sure miss the lovely low light rendering and the smooth bokeh, so I'll think it over for a couple of days.
At least I would check for what Makten and I have experienced. If you have none of this, then I'd guess yours is good. But yes, it's a lot of money, and not to be sure it is 100 % good is not a nice feeling.

Mortyb,
I'm going to replicate the issue with my RX1. What was your setting?

I can see a little difference in color between the middle and corners, but not nearly as much as with Mortens copy. Of course there will always be some shift over the frame because of the angle of the infalling light, and I suppose they correct for that in the software.

Yeah, it would be interesting for a few users to post white wall results, so that we can decipher whether its a isolated issue or not. I've noticed the shift in shots from several users, but I'm particularly sensitive to it, so it may not be that bad.

I wouldn't mind using Cornerfix, so this is not a problem for me even if my copy has it. But it won't be my copy any more for other reasons.

I wouldn't be happy if I had to use cornerfix. This is an expensive camera and you'd expect they've perfectly matched the lens to the sensor.
It could just be a quality control issue though...

Yes, I've now confirmed that the lens is decentered. F*CK. Now I will probably have to wait for months for "repair" since no one ever seems to get a new lens/camera when this stuff happens and they aren't even in stock anywhere.
Thank you Sony for the "quality control".
Is it too late to take it back, and just keep an eye open for a new one?

I sure hope so. This is beginning to sound like there are some issues with the camera and lens already. I just wonder what kind of failure rate that we may be looking at.

Don't be too hard on Sony, several recent high-end cameras have had issues, including the light leak of the 5DIII, the AF sensor adjustment of the D800, and so on. These cameras are just getting harder to make, as they push the envelope more. But yeah, I would return it and wait until a fixed one comes along.

Lightroom also has this capability. It came a couple of updates ago.
Ah, interesting, I'll have to have a look. What does Adobe call this feature? Can they be applied automatically upon important in a lens+aperture dependent fashion?

Yes, I agree. If it were cheaper I wouldn't worry about it, but now... The files beautiful, clearly better than I get from my 5D, but what if various problems start to show up after the "14 days' return right" has passed..? However, if mine were clearly faulty like yours and Makten's I'd definitely send it back now.
If only I had done like planned and waited a bit... If I decide to keep it I'll have to try and not worry. Just continue use it and if something turns up later deal with it then. If it has to go to Sony repair I guess I can live with it, but again, it's so much money... We shouldn't even have to think about these things.
(Btw. I don't yet know if mine has the color shift problem too, because I don't have any pictures that are white around the edges. Maybe I'll do a test tomorrow. However, the bright photos I do have don't show this issue, so if it's there at least it's not as bad as mortyb's. What I can say for sure is that mine isn't de-centered.)

In my experience, in general it actually works exactly like that: the more expensive and exclusive, the more likely to develop problems. The high-end Nikon and Canon pro cameras would be exceptions here, my D3 never had a single issue in its life, that I can remember. The most expensive camera I have ever bought, the Leica M8, had more problems than anything else I have bought, and the lens I bought it with went back three times before it was right. The last time it went back, it returned with a scratch on the rear element, which I unfortunately didn't notice until much later. High-end != trouble-free, far from it.

No, I've just read the "law on consumers rights" (konsumentköplagen) and I have the right to return the camera or get a new one if it does not function properly. Now, this is where there could be a problem. Average Joe wouldn't ever see the slight but very frustrating difference in sharpness from left to right across the frame that I've been seeing all the time. I just wanted to confirm it on a tripod and a planar scene, and now I know it's there. It might actually be the whole lens that doesn't sit in parallel with sensor, since I think I can see a slightly tilted plane of focus. It's not much, but enough to bother me and I can't accept that.
So, I guess I must take some pictures where it can be seen as a proof. But what is "proper" function? I mean, of course ALL lenses are misaligned if you have enough pixels to see it.
I was beginning to get bitter, but now I realize that this is the first faulty lens I've encountered out of ~70, so I guess it was bound to happen. I'll use it until I get an anwer from the store, because I really like the rest of the RX1 more for every day. It's a fantastic camera and this won't stop me even if it will be a PITA to get a new one.
-----------------
Regarding the strange color casts, I've seen similar stuff in M9 images. Often a quite strong red tint to the left, and I think any Bayer sensor will do this if the exit pupil is close enough to the sensor. I'd try Cornerfix before ruling out the camera. It's too good and small to be possible to replace with something else.

IMO the issue with going the repair way, is that it 1) may take long time, and 2) you are not guaranteed that it will be fixed and 3) maybe they even say it is within spec. During that time your time window for a refund is closed. I NEVER go that route. If it doesn't work right from the start, it goes back for a refund and I just take a big step back and wait.

Well, if your store appreciates your business, they would probably take it back anyway. Needless to say, if they make you wait a couple of months for repair, you would shop elsewhere next time, which in your case could mean that they lose tens of thousands of Euros of business
