not to get off topic but was that thumbs up REALLY worth it? it's such a ripoff but I want one badly
Yes, for me at least it made a day and night difference. With it, the camera can be held very securely with one hand and feels much more comfortable to use. After using it, I don't think I could use an X100 happily without one. There are cheaper versions available that I have not used that may work just as well.

thanks. one of these days I'll suck it up, I guess. maybe for Christmas!

The video Engadget threw up with a Sony rep talking says the sensor has twice the light sensitivity and 50% more dynamic range "than any sensor we've developed in the past". I'm assuming they mean a sensor they've used in their own cameras (A900, APS-C 16MP, etc..) and not including the 36MP sensor they developed for Nikon.

Is it just me feel NEX7 is better designed camera without mention APSc sensor.
I guess Sony might know Leica's new offering with price at $5000?
It would also fun to know that M10 has the same sensor for $10000, suddenly, it is very misleading for costumer to justify this P&S camera's $2800 price.
Gosh, how they can ask this price on this body? Sommething seriously wrong. There is no taste for the body design, looks like a toy.
Sorry for typo as i am on iPhone.

So it looks like like it has image stabilization? It shows in the specs as "Optical SteadyShot". But it's weird that it's not using the phase detect array from the A99 sensor.

That is why I said that the E-mount being tight and close to the sensor is a challenge for lenses that have an exit pupil that is far from the sensor, while (more symmetrical) lenses with an exit pupil close to the sensor are a challenge because of the angle of incidence.
My point was that it is not a challenge, you simply move the optics further into the barrel if needed, similar to, say 300mm 135 format lenses, for example. Sure, it is a challenge to take full advantage of such a mount, but choosing a short register distance is a no-brainer with no disadvantages.

Wait a minute. $2800? I don't get that. Who is the target audience?
Me. I don't get the not getting it. What other FF camera could I get with a 35/2 for the same price? And won't it be at least twice the size and weight?

As was already mentioned, then you end up with more highly angled light rays, which are a problem on digital. Either way, there is a new FF Nex camcorder announced tonight, so it looks to be ok with a-mount lenses.

No EVF on board is serious problem for me make it quick trip to the P&S group. Hold at arm level/length all the time for $2800 camera, that looks funny. Once add $500 EVF (even though it still looks funny), it is a $3300 camera, I'd better with M8/8.2 with VS28f2 or Biogonf2.
The price indicate sony never expect it sell a lot of this. and NEX-7 looks like a bargain.
Yes, NEX-7 with Zeiss 24 is about $2400, but you can change lens and EVF is on board like a camera.
