I tried both the Zeiss 35 and the Voightlander 28. Both fit well in the shoe The Zeiss 35 sure did not appear to be designed specifically to match the RX1's actual focal length, which is wider than 35mm's. I found the 28 a better match myself as the Zeiss cropped a whole lot of the actual image area out. The 28 will show a tiny bit more than is captured at specific distances but in terms of accuracy, it's far closer to the actual focal length of the RX1 lens. No optical finder like this will be perfect though so if you really need accuracy, it's either the rear lcd or an EVF.

When I travel to places where theft is a serious problem, I blank out identifying markings on my cameras with tape to avoid attention as much as possible. I'll be in Barcelona in a couple of months and that city fits the description if any does. I'm staring at my RX1 wondering what to do with this ****** flaming orange band around the base of the lens. A 5mm wide black rubber band should work, but I can't find such a thing. Are there any other paranoid types out there who have a solution?

do thieves really take the time to read the label on a camera? i would think they either steal anything that looks high end or know any particular expensive camera on sight if that's their specialty.

As far as I know, Barcelona is mainly about pickpockets and tricks, not about violent theft, so I doubt the look of your camera has much to do with it, but I guess it doesn't hurt.

If I was a thief I would think "that guy camouflaged his camera, it must be expensive or some kind of prototype. Interesting."
As Carsten already said, Barcelona is not really about violent theft. It also helps that it's infested with tourists so you don't stand out with a camera. Certainly not a P&S looking one like the RX1. I wouldn't worry too much.

As Carsten said, "it doesn't hurt" - I think it is worth doing a few simple things in order to not attract attention. I do use electricians tape to mask things a bit, Maybe it isn't as much work as it seems to trim off that long a strip. Jochen, a smart thief will think that way, but perhaps I can fool the dumb ones that haven't been caught yet . I don't keep my cameras out of my bag around my neck all the time anyhow.

I am seriously loving this camera. I just added the EVF this weekend and it's fantastic. The body is a little small, but I find the handling to be pretty good with the EVF. I love being able to use the EVF at different angles.
And the image quality....damn. It's certainly a step above my X100S and probably 6D. It's quite apparent that the lens and the sensor are something special.

You may want add grip for it. I use Fotodiox. I heard good thing about RRS.

I have the RRS grip. I don't use it all the time, but it's great. You can hold the camera much more firmly. This also allows you to shoot at slower shutterspeeds handheld.
Btw, I also owned the 6D. At base ISO it's clearly inferior (color depth, DR) to the RX1. At high ISO I feel it's slightly better.

My RRS L bracket grip and the EVF I both love and have stayed glued onto my RX1 since I got them. My neoprene Optech cover fits over both and keeps it less noticeable when not shooting and protected enough.
Also try shooting in RAW + JPEG in B&W mode with the Contrast set at +2. Pretty sweet B&W SOOC.
The lens is great for portraits, so I expect it to be perfect for your shooting style Wheeze.

Thank you andrenth, I was wondering if the "Hood Hat - Mini" might work. Please tell me, is the "hat" deep enough to fit snug up against the camera body, covering the entire lens? And with the Sony hood mounted too perhaps?

Thank you again, andrenth! So that hood hat isn't quite what I was looking for. However, it gave me an idea. I use op/tech Fold-Over Pouches to protect m43 lenses in a bag - they look like two hood hats stitched together. The longer part of the smallest one, #251, fits the RX1 lens! Carefully remove the stitches that hold the two parts together and stitch on a bar tack to strengthen the end of each seam. As a bonus, the small part becomes a hood hat for the Panasonic 35-100. And the longer part becomes a lens condom for the RX1
. I don't keep my cameras out of my bag around my neck all the time anyhow.
