I have a project I'm working on for a non-profit organization. I'm looking to get a bunch of press books (number is uncertain, but probably between 50-1000... big range I know). All of the suppliers we use for weddings and engagements would be too expensive for this project due to the amount we'd need and the budget of the non-profit. Even $20 or $30 per piece is likely too much.
Does anybody know a supplier that sells press books in bulk for a cheap price with decent quality? Thanks in advance.
Hey Tony. Check with your local print shops. Usually they are more expensive than press books we would normally order from Millers or WHCC or a company of the like. But when ordering in bulk, and because they are local and want your business you might get a sweet deal.
In PGH, I never use local people because there are better companies online that produce higher quality work for cheap. Finao and WHCC and MIllers. But I did have a few bulk jobs that we needed a large amount of press books and in comparison, were almost as good as millers. But book for book they are $5.75 more expensive. Since we needed 500 they ended up being $3.75 less than the others.
ALso, give millers a call or one of the big companies. Tell them what you're doing. You might get a discount. You never know. Since it is a non profit and they always like to cut costs anywhere they can. You might be able to get a discount with the album suppliers ad in the back of the book.
If you're talking 1,000 books I'd think you'd want to talk with a big press. I'd be surprised if BRI or Millers etc. would be able to do it anywhere near $20/ea.
Tony, any commercial and or offset printing house can do this. Looks like there are several on Google maps. Just write down your specs and call some tomorrow. They're going to want an actual quantity though. 50-1,000's not gonna work. I still think a call to Miller's will be your best bet.
ask Chuck's buddy Steve Friedemann ... he is a printing guru and would def. know some print houses in and around the philly area. I have my business cards done there by some hip solar printing letterpress place... not saying they are the ones but there are local print places for sure in your area (philly).
There's no way a lab that is geared to sell one-off copies of a book will be able to compete on price for a commercial printing company that is geared for 1000+ copies. Depending on quality specs and size, it's not unreasonable to pay $8-14 for a smallish book with 50-60 pages.
My dad owned a commercial printing business, and specialized in publishing for local authors (and also big authors) for over 25 years before he sold the company...he still does print brokering if you want his info.
