I've bought from B&H and Adorama for years, but when I saw Beach Camera's "smoking" deal on Ebay for the 5D Mark III last Friday I couldn't resist. After a quick search here and at reseller ratings I felt ok about the "new to me" vendor, and bought one. The bid went thru, Paypal went thru and my order was confirmed. But it just felt "too good to be true.". Today I received an email from Beach stating that the camera was back ordered and asked if 'd like to cancel my order *sigh* I replied NO and responded to keep my order, but am feeling more and more that it was in fact too good to be true.
Anyone else jump on this auction and have any luck with a shipped camera??
I have bought from all three of the listed companies for years. All are legit solid firms. Perhaps they oversold their inventory but as to their ability to deliver there would be zero question in my mind and further based upon USA inventory stocks of 5D3's you can expect it fairly quickly IMO.
I got a back order also. I think they oversold before they got it closed on Ebay. They should not charge you until they are in stock and ready to ship. I think Beach Camera is a good company and when I receive my 5d3, I will even like them more.

Well they, or at least Paypal, have already got my money as my Checking account's already been debited for the transaction...
you and me both...
So they billed you but they don't have a camera to ship? Did they at least indicate that they are going to honor that price and fill your order? Their web site shows they have them in stock....just at a higher price.
Yep, if they billed you and they have cameras on hand at the higher price then they should ship your paid-for body out, no excuses. I bought one during the sale as well and Beach shipped out the next business day. I'll be listing my Beach body @ cost on b+s because I only bought it in case the body I bought a few days earlier from Big Value $2700 was not a USA body as advertised, but turns out it was. Plus I got in on the printer deal as well.

Yeah, I saw that. I checked their website and saw the big 'ol green "in stock and ready to ship." So I called them and asked to speak to sales and asked if they have one in stock so I could order it. I was going to go ballistic if they did have them in stock at a higher price. But the gentlemen told me that they didn't have any and were waiting on Canon to ship some more.
So hopefully it is just what it seemed, they oversold, have no inventory, and will ship the 5DIII out soon. At least I HOPE!
The one time I tried Beach was years ago when I was buying my 5D. I got a back-order on it and I cancelled the order. They're probably legit but I just didn't feel like taking any chances on a place I had never used before. Rather than just asking here you might check out photo.net's "neighbor to neighbor" (or something like that) where people share their experiences with different vendors.
I ordered the body only for $2799. I was around mid 20's in order. Mine is scheduled to be delivered in the morning. I've never ordered from Beach either, but most people who have speak highly of them.
Some members on POTN are also saying they received the "backordered" email.

It's legit. They have a store front. I was in it a couple of times (very small store front in a strip mall in central NJ, semi-near Rutgers University). One of their salesmen can be a touch ornery about things though.
To add my voice to the choir (if it's helpful), I've purchased a "too good to be true" kit from them before (my beloved 60D). They were a dream to deal with.
