I am on Smugmug but I just got an email that they are raising their prices to $300 a month for a business account thats $150 more a year than it was.... I AM OUT.
Is there any portfolio sites like smugmug that have access to print studios and fair prices?
as a struggling photographer 300 a year is too much for me to pay, It was hard enough to cough up the $150.

I would go look at Zenfolio. I just renewed for the year with SM last month but I am beginning the process here in the upcoming weeks to migrate all of my content over to Zenfolio possibly. It is just ignorant to double prices like that. I don't make a ton of profit a year from the service and definitely not enough with this increase.

I have been with smug mug for 5 years - I am a full time photographer and I will be looking for new options. Depending on what I find, I might be moving to a new service.

I'm also going to switch once my current year is up, is just to big a jump and I don't see how that can be justified. Not sure where I'm going year but have a few months to decide.

Greed
That seems a little simplistic. No offense intended, but their founder made a video explaining their need to raise prices, first in 7 years. Here is a link to the video he posted:
I'm not saying I agree with it, but no reason not to be fair. In short, they're wanting to shore up their technical infrastructure and IT staff.
I was with Zenfolio for several years and left when they raised their prices. I went to SmugMug back then and I'm getting tired of switching. Switching was not a clean and simple transition. I will probably ride this one out and hope they don't raise rates for another 7 years.

I disagree only greed could cause a price increase that large. They would have been better advised to keep on top of there business and raise prices gradually as needed over the years there to all of a sudden increase it that much.

Poor business practices and naiveté does not translate to greed. I'm sure you're upset and want to vent, that's understandable. But there are more rational explanations than a simple one word reply of greed.

First you say it's greed, then you say you disagree it's only greed. Make sense...

So it's greed (or not, depending on which post you read) in one lump, but increasing the same amount over several years (which would get them MORE money) ISN'T greed? Makes sense.

My subscription ends in a week, so I doubt I will renew. I'm considering Zenfolio right now.
The price hike doesn't start until October 15 so you'll be able to renew at the old rate anyway - at least for the next year.

^^My subscription choices only include the new plans at this point, so not sure about that. I wanted to redo my website anyway, so good time to change.
