I used to shoot this combo and it produced great images. The only drawback, and this ultimately led to me going back to all primes, was that the 17-55 is a beast in weight.
Other than that, it's a great lens and a perfect fit for the D7000.
The 17-55 2.8 is a great lens. In the summertime I use it on a D7000... in the winter on a D300s. Just a couple things to be aware of: on the D7000 it back focuses which I can correct with -14 AF Fine Tune adjustment (SETUP menu). Also, on the D7000, when using the built-in flash, the lens will cast a bit of a shadow from about 22mm down to 17mm. On the D300s this lens has no back focus issues at all.

Funny i used to correct my 17-55 about the same as you on my d7000 as well...more recently i've found it doesnt need it as bad as it used to...i'm at -2 now....and no adjustments on my D300.....my 11-16 needs -20 on my d7000, and none on my d300....strange...
The best DX lens I ever shot with, hands down. If I wasn't an FX shooter now, I'd still own it without question. Can't say specific to the D7000, but I don't see why it wouldn't shine on the D7000 even more.
