p.1 #1 · Have you changed?

I was sitting here editing and thought it might be interesting to see how peoples work has changed since they started out. The ground rules are as follows:

You can choose work from up to four years. One of these years must be your very first. Choose a theme of either engagements or weddings for your images (so the subject matter stays consistent). From each year chose one image. From the first year the image must be from your very first paid event (do be honest).
Should be interesting to see the trip everyone has taken.

What if our first year was more than 4 years ago?

It's four different years, so one from the first, two from in between, and one more current.

Oh ok, I got it. He said, "from up to 4 years..." when he meant "from any 4 years" with one of those 4 years being from the first year.

1st wedding 2 years ago. I am embarrassed by the result and my attitude toward other members. Chuck did say I was his favorite new member. Wee!

I'll have to remind myself to do this next week. I shot a B&G Monday and their wedding is Saturday, they don't want people to see the images until Saturday. It was one of those sessions that I feel like my game went up to another plateau

Isn't that a wonderful feeling! This is a great idea and exercise if you need a quick ego boost (as long as you have indeed been progressing!)

i didnt really changed much because shooting with MF camera is about as painful as it always was
i came into weddings from commercial photography so was already shaped
probably i only use less OCF and shoot more.

I've definitely changed over the last few years, but I'm too lazy to dig up photos that illustrate the change.

In a nutshell, my approach is refined, I shoot a hell of a lot less and know precisely what I want (though that is also a moving target), my focus and views about what is really important is vastly different from where I started, and as always I push myself to produce stronger work.

I used to think that shooting nothing but weddings would be terribly boring - I wanted to shoot portraits, families, newborns, commercial work, architectural, products, etc etc etc... you name it, I wanted to be shooting it. Yeah... now I am not terribly interested in anything but weddings (and personal work still). I just don't enjoy posing and creating things for the sake of looking pretty or interesting with no other purpose or meaning to it, anymore (which when it boils down to it, is what I always liked about photography in the first place). Of course, it will be interesting to see how different things are in a few more years.

I've definitely changed a lot. It's going to continue to change. This is my first year and I think my photos are crap due to a number of factors including a lack of skill, lack of inspiration, and lack of artistic style (I'm a technical person, not an art geek). As time goes by, I constantly refine and fix a lot of issues I've had such as OCF, AF/MF, AWB, composition, creativity, and stability. I shoot to pay bills and to make a living. I've gone from hating wedding shoots to loving them for the special moments that happen during the weddings. It's the same reason I think all my work is crap because it fails to capture the moment as vivid as I saw it. I shoot cars, I shoot people, I shoot real estate, I shoot anything that will pay. I deliver what I believe the customer will love. That's about the extent of where I'm at right now.

After over 100 weddings in the past 4 years, I now shoot more than ever and experiment more than ever. I always thought as time went on I would shoot less.

Cool stuff. I'm always interested in seeing how other people have developed.
