p.1 #1 · Honeycomb Grid for your flash.

Hi. I noticed a few of you use this modifier on some E-session and even weddings. I'm just wondering to those that use the honeycomb grid, what is a good size?

Is it better to go with 1/4" for a wider light and fall off or 1/8" with a narrower light scatter?

This is for the 580ex series flash. Any thoughts and advise would be appreciated.

I use a 1/4" more than the 1/8", but both see their use. Depends on the size of the area you are trying to light.

Thanks for your input. I saw Amazon has these Opteka ones for about $13 each. Cheap enough to buy two types.

Maybe I had a bad batch.. but my Opteka grid just kinda split open as soon not long after I got it. My honl is still going strong.

I have an old set of Dynalite grids (10, 20, 30, 40 degree)...they're designed for studio lights, but I can bungee them on speedlights or my old Norman LH-2 heads just fine. It's nice to have all four to choose from, depending on how much coverage you want.

Huh. Now I have to do more research. Is the grid flimsy?

Not really. The plastic is the same weight/thickness as the honl. It just seems like it's not glued on as good.. I would think that gluing it would solve the problem ( actually I might just do that.)

I recently purchased the Rogue Gel Pack and came across some of their other products. This grid set looks pretty good. Not super cheap but seems really well made, and it's 3-in-1 design covers all the bases.
